If Republicans Want to Impeach Obama, This Would Be a Good Starting Point

Buried in the report about the CIA hacking the Senate Intelligence Committee computers is a report that the White House approved explicitly approved these actions against congressional oversight:

According to a report by the CIA Inspector General, the White House was informed of the CIA’s plan to hack US Senate computers to discover what was going to be in the Senate Torture Report. CIA Director John Brennan met with White House chief of staff Denis McDonough then ordered CIA employees to “use whatever means necessary” to find out what Senate investigators knew.

Given the White House’s role in the illegal hacking of Senate computers it becomes obvious why the Justice Department headed by President Obama-appointed Attorney General Eric Holder is not likely to bring charges against the CIA – charges against the CIA could lead back to the White House.

The specific content of the conversation between Brennan and McDonough is not disclosed but after the conversation Brennan instructed his subordinates at the CIA to trash the Constitution and engage in espionage activity against the US Senate.

If the Congress can show that Obama knew about this, you have a deliberate attempt to subvert Congressional oversight and the separation of powers enshrined in the Constitutions.

If they go after him on this, it’s actually a decent case.

Of course, the most likely he was willfully blind, much as Reagan was with Iran Contra, which most certainly an impeachable offense, even if the Democrats didn’t have the stones to go there.

In fact, it could be argued that from a constitutional perspective, spying on the Senate oversight committee is worse.

In any case, it’s a lot worse than getting a blow job from an intern.

Here we go again. The flying monkeys are looking to impeach Barack Obama, with the usual suspects penning an article, titled, “Is it time to whisper the word ‘impeachment’?”

They claim that there is a, “The groundswell of calls for the impeachment of Barack Hussein Obama is growing” but those calls are the voices in their head.

This is what happens to people who believe that God has personally anointed them to rule, and I don’t think that you could drive Tom Delay’s penis between the mental space separating them from Osama bin Laden.

Remember when I said that Pelosi has said that the Judiciary Committe might hold impeachment hearings?

No such luck. It appears that the committee will instead investigate the behavior of Bush and His Evil Minions™, and if they find something inappropriate, I’m sure that they will write a very strongly written letter, and perhaps hold a very upset press conference.

But as to impeachment, and a possible vote on impeachment, that’s just:

Pelosi Says Judiciary May Hold Impeachment Hearings

It appears that Kucinich is offering a “privileged resolution”, and Ms. “Not on the Table” says that there may be actual hearings.

“This is a Judiciary Committee matter, and I believe we will some attention being paid to it by the Judiciary Committee,” Pelosi told reporters. “Not necessarily taking up the articles of impeachment because that would have to be approved on the floor, but to have some hearings on the subject.”

Pelosi added: “My expectation is that there will be some review of that in the committee.”

Something odd is going on…I’m just not sure if it will be a good odd, or a bad odd.

Well, we now have the definitive word on when Bush knew that there was no Iraq-al Queida link, and that he continued to claim such a link

In October 2002, a few weeks before Congress voted to authorize the Iraq invasion, Bush told a crowd in Cincinnati: “We’ve learned that Iraq has trained al Qaeda members in bomb-making and poisons and deadly gasses.”

Problem is, it wasn’t true. More importantly, a lot of people at the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency knew it probably wasn’t true. That’s one of the interesting revelations inside the Senate’s recent 171-page Phase II report on whether White House statements were backed up by prewar intelligence.

He knew. He knew since February 2002.

It turns out that their source was one guy, who had most of the information tortured out of him, and none of whose claims ever panned out.

Impeach Dick Cheney today. Impeach George W. Bush tomorrow.

That’s worse than cancer. Hell, that’s worse than Dick Cheney.

Bush to Renominate War Criminal to DoJ Position

Stephen J. Bradbury wrote the memoranda that authorized torture, and so the Senate has refused to confirm, but George W. Bush, in a fit of pique I guess, has decided that there are not enough war criminals in the Department of Justice, so he’s sending him back again.

If there is a level of lawlessnesses that demands impeachment, it was reached some time ago, and by not addressing this with an investigation, the Congress is ignoring their constitutional responsibility.

White House to Give Senate Intel Committee SOME Surveillance Program Documents

Well, it appears that the White House willgive the Senate Intelligence Committee SOME documents from their surveillance program. It appears that the Democrats saying that there would be no retroactive surveillance got Bush and His Evil Minions™ to back down.

The question is why such a paranoid and secrecy obsessed group of people would cave over the possibility of some telephone companies being in legal jeopardy.

The only conclusion is that Bush and his people are concerned that the telcos will cut a deal, with disclosure of what they did, and who they targeted, and that this would do profound damage to Bush.

Let’s connect the dots:

  • Former Qwest CEO Joe Nacchio said that he was asked to participate in this surveillance program on February 27, 2001, almost 7 months before 911.
  • The Bush Administration was largely unconcerned about terrorism prior to 911, Condi Rice going as far as saying that the real area of concern would be a resurgent Russia asserting itself on the world stage*.
  • We have the 911 commission report confirming that the political appointees in the Bush Admin were unconcerned with terrorism.
  • We have a large number of former Bush administration officials, starting with John Dilulio, who have said that there was no policy apparatus in the whitehouse, just a political one, and that all decisions were made on the basis of political expediency.

So there is no reason for such a program except for a surveillance fetish, and spying on political enemies.

Misusing the state security apparatus for this purpose is an impeachable offence, period, full stop.

*Nice to know that your work as head of the NSC and as Secretary of State has prevented that. Heck of a job there Condi.

In the last two weeks, two sources, one of them inside of the Justice Department, have told me that a scheme was hatched in the upper echelons of the Bush Administration shortly after it took office in 2001 or early in 2002. The project identified John Edwards and Hillary Clinton as likely Democratic challengers to President Bush, and identified prominent trial lawyers around the United States as the likely financial vehicle for Edward’s rise. It directed that their campaign finance records be fly-specked, and that offenses not be treated as administrative matters but rather as serious criminal offenses.

The deliberate use of the state security apparatus to target opponents and their supporters is illegal, and was the sort of circumstance that was specifically envisioned by the founding fathers as a reason for impeachment now.

Inslee to push to impeach Abu Gonzales

Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA) is submitting a motion to impeach Alberto Gonzalez.

It reads as follows:

Resolved: That the Committee on the Judiciary shall investigate fully whether sufficient grounds exist for the House of Representatives to impeach Alberto Gonzales for high crimes and misdemeanors.

Truth be told, I’d much rather see a motion that inserts “for lying to congressional committees and investigators in violation of applicable laws, and” right after his name.

It’s clear that he’s lying. It’s clear that he has lied for Bush since his days in Texas.

Impeach Gonzalez now. Impeach Cheney tomorrow. Impeach Bush the day after.

Senior judges from North America and Europe were in the midst of a panel discussion about torture and terrorism law, when a Canadian judge’s passing remark – ‘Thankfully, security agencies in all our countries do not subscribe to the mantra ‘What would Jack Bauer do?’ ‘ – got the legal bulldog in Judge Scalia barking.”

The conservative jurist stuck up for Agent Bauer, arguing that fictional or not, federal agents require latitude in times of great crisis. “Jack Bauer saved Los Angeles. … He saved hundreds of thousands of lives,” Judge Scalia said. Then, recalling Season 2, where the agent’s rough interrogation tactics saved California from a terrorist nuke, the Supreme Court judge etched a line in the sand.

“Are you going to convict Jack Bauer?” Judge Scalia challenged his fellow judges. “Say that criminal law is against him? ‘You have the right to a jury trial?’ Is any jury going to convict Jack Bauer? I don’t think so.
