The doctor is saying that it’s a virus, sob we are heading home, with instructions to force fluids & give her Tylenol.

It Never F@$#ing Rains, but It F@$#ing Pours.
Posting via mobile from the GBMC ER.
Natalie just came back from a school camping trip, and she is spiking a fever of 102.8, shakes, stiff neck, sensitive skin, and coughing.
It could be, from a jelly fish sting, or from swimming in the bay, but what do I know, I’m an engineer, not a doctor, dammit!!!
Wy Wife Was Just in a Car Accident
Thankfully a non-injury auto accident.
Status of car is OK, but with an added dent, and she’s off to the chiropractor.
From her description, theother car, which apparently had blowout, and spun into her, was more seriously damaged, and she ended up pointing the wrong way on I-83, she got lucky.
Her back is bothering her a bit, probably because she tensed up, so she is at the chiropractors.
Getting Old
OK, so I am now firmly in my late 40s, and I’ve been putting my glasses on my forehead for close work for about a year, and it’s time for me to get a new prescription, and I got bifocals.
Presbyopia catches up with us all.
In any case, the lenses are of the no line variety, and I’m still adjusting (I think that they may have gotten my left (dominant) eye wrong.
It Was My Wife’s Birthday a Few Days Ago
And the kids made her breakfast, though their real gift was helping her cleaning for Passover.
In any case, they made her oatmeal with fresh strawberries, and my daughter Natalie also made her decaf coffee with chocolate, and strawberries.
Strawberries? Great googly moogly! My wife did gamely manage to get it down, and it’s sweet, but I need to instruct Natalie in the ways of coffee.
Signs of the Apocalypse: Daughter Edition
My daughter cleaned her room.
She really cleaned her room.
She got rid of about 3 bags of garbage worth of stuff that she had been storing, old drawings, notebooks, etc., and you can see the floor!
In fact, she opened up enough space that we could take her the stuffed animals that had been put in the attic in her last cleaning attempt back down stairs.
I never thought that the day would happen when we could see her floor again!
Have I mentioned that we can see her floor?
Family Pictures that I Won’t Be Sharing
My wife has been experiencing a fair amount of gastric distress lately, so she went to the doctor for a colonoscopy.
I drove her there, and drove her home, and the initial pictures seem to be showing that everything is OK, though there are still some biopsies that were taken, and a small polyp was removed.
Big River
So, it’s finally opening night for the Reisterstown Theater Project’s production of Big River, a musical based on Mark Twain’s classic Huck Finn.
My wife is not up to going to the theater today, so we will see it tomorrow.
My daughter is in the chorus, and she has one line, and she loves being in the play, though I think that if she wants to do this again, we will wait until school is out, because with rehearsals, homework, etc. she is running herself ragged.
It’s an amateur production, though it’s fairly well done, with the strongest actor playing the runaway slave Jim.
Obama’s Presser
I heard all of it, but I was multi-tasking, helping my son buy algae for the science fair, so you may want to read the Rude Pundit’s version….He’s is a better writer than I am anyway.
Ghod! It’s nice not having a drooling moron (mostly) dry drunk there anymore.
One thing that the Rude One missed though: Chuck Todd is a complete fracking moron.
Seriously. He asked if maybe now it’s the time for Americans to save, as opposed to spending.
Does this man even read the paper, and listen to even the most conservative economists, who say that right now paying down debt is the kiss of death?
Jeebus….This guy makes Jonah Goldberg sound like Albert Einstein (the actor, not the physicist*).
*Albert Lawrence Einstein the actor changed his last name to Brooks when he went into acting, to avoid confusion.
The Quintessential Jewish-American Experience
It’s Christmas, so we went to a Hanukkah fair at the JCC, and then we had went to David Chu’s Chinese Bistro, a Baltimore Kosher Chinese restaurant, and had dinner, and experienced Chinese food on Christmas.
It was absolutely packed, by the way. Lots of other Jews make a habit of Chinese cuisine on Christmas too.
Family Bragging Rights
My daughter, Natalie is on the “Principal’s Honor Roll” at Franklin Middle school, which means that she is maintaining an above “B” average.
Considering the challenges Natalie has had, she had problems learning to read and she is still on an IEP,* this is a very pleasant development.
We took her out to an Italian restaurant that she rather likes by way of reward.
*Individualized education plan, a personalized plan to address the specific needs of a special education student.
It’s Official, Traffic on the NJ TPKE Sucks!
Bumper to bumper, topping out at 20 mph….sigh.
I’m Nearly Mute
So, I’m driving, actually riding shotgun right now, to my mother-in-law’s for Thanksgiving, with my finger in a splint.
About 6 weeks ago, I got my finger twisted opening my door, and it has continued to bug me, so I decided to immobilize it for a few days, and load up on asperine.
Look at the picture. It’s a mother-in-law joke…..Well, it cracked up the receptionist at the chiroptactor.
So, Charlie Went on a Hike Today
As a part of his being with Webelos, the last year of Cub Scouts. The whole family went with him.
I try to keep my involvement with the Boy Scouts to a minimum, the Supreme Court may have given them the right to be bigots, but it doesn’t mean that being a bigot is the right thing, so I don’t take an active role in the organization.
Basically I won’t ever do anything that would have me donning one of their insignia.
In any case, the hike was was three miles down the path that was once the NCR (North Central Railroad) line.
It’s ind of a pity to see rail lines torn up.
1½ miles each way, for a total of 3 miles heading south from Monkton. It was rather chilly.
At the end, there was a little sweet/coffee shop, and we had coffee (adults) and hot cocoa (kids), along with a sweet snack.
It was a nice afternoon.
I Got My First Check from Google™ Adsense
OK, it’s not really a check, I went with electronic funds transfer.
It’s ad revenue, and let me note that I do not endorse, and sometimes I mock, the ads that show up, so click if you through, you do so at your own risk.
I would also note that I am not attempting to induce you to click the ads that you would otherwise not be inclined to click. Advertisers do not appreciate fraud.
If there is any virtue that I bring to this endeavor, it is that I don’t harbor much in the way delusions of adequacy.
I hit $107.24 at the end of September, I just saw the EFT on the 27th..
Hmmmm…That’s $107.24 for 5857 posts over 17 months, or about 1.83 ¢/post… …Damn……A newspaper publisher would love me, but it makes me feel depressed.
I know, if I divide by the number of worthwhile posts…..That’s about $33.41 a post, which is reassuring, in a self deluding way.
You get a payment each time your balance breaks $100.
This payment I am spending on my anniversary dinner with my wife, which is delayed for lack of babysitting, once again proving that marriage is the single most expensive way ever devised to get laid.
I promise to have a beer at dinner, since I kind of sort of promised:
As to where the proceeds go, and at the rate I’m going I’ll get my first check around 2011, they will go to things like beer (or Slivovitz) for me, or taking my wife out to dinner.
And as much as I like Slivovitz, it really does not go with a good quality meal.
Well, Natalie’s Back
She, along with most of the rest of her class at Franklin Middle School, went on a class trip to a camp at North Bay on Monday, a camp located at the very north of the Chesapeake bay, and she came home today.
It was a science field trip, she studied the econolgy, turtles, stuff like that.
It seems to have calmed her down a bit…for a while at least.
Depressingly Sober
Yesterday was Shmini Atseret. Tonight is Simchat Torah, which, along with starting a new job, has had me offline for the past few days.
We are going to a family friendly Simchat Torah celebration….No booze…..So I’m sober, and wishing that I wasn’t.
Oh well, in the morning, I’ll be sober either way.
On the Human Metronome
So, now that Charlie, aka, “The Human Metronome,” is in public school, he can take music classes, and we got him a Ludwig Percussion Kit, model LR2482R, which, “features a 13″ wooden snare drum, 2 1/2 octave bells, tunable practice pad with multi-purpose snare and bell stand, music rack, mallets and drum sticks. All items fit securely in the padded rolling bag that has sturdy plastic wheels and a telescoping handle.”
It’s pretty neat how you get it all into one compact package.
Charlie got it yesterday, when the music store delivered it to school, and has been working the drums and bells.
Mostly the bells.
Right now, he’s sitting there with the mallets, and plinking out a tune….Not Mary Had a Little Lamb….He’s doing Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
He must get the musical skilz from his mother’s side of the family.
OK, So I’ve Entered the Realm of the Jobless
So it goes…..
All in all, the end of my contract was a good thing.
Working in nuclear power produced a level of cognitive dissonance, I think that nuclear poser is unsafe and economically unviable, that was wearing me down.
The day after it ended, I went to my chiropractor, and realized that I felt much better than I had in months.
The workplace as a bunch of people was actually pretty good. They were good people, but for the first time in my life, the nature of the work made me miserable.
So, while I am still fat and bald, I am no longer working in nuclear power, which means that all Homer Simpson jokes are now “inoperative”.
Funny Strange, Not Funny Ha Ha
Mithras notes:
Know What’s Funny?
Upper middle class white liberal bloggers who think that their political opinions matter to people trying to win an election. That is really funny.
Actually, I’ve now thought of something even funnier (again, funny strange, not funny ha ha): Why upper class white conservative pundits keep trying to give electoral advice to Democrats.
As to my giving advice to anyone, this upper middle class Jewish blogger’s opinions don’t even matter to my Sharon*….And they matter to my 11 year old daughter even less, but she takes after her mother at her age.
My almost 9 year old son though, he cares what I think….but we are both science geeks, and we talk science, and I am an engineer…..But he keeps asking me about things like quantum entanglement (really), and I have to tell him, “call uncle Stephen, he’s the physicist.”
Actually, they all respect my cooking skills though, which is some consolation.
*Love of my life, light of the cosmos, she who must be obeyed, my wife.
