This Time Google™ Adsense™ Serves Up Evil

I saw this ad on my blog, and was not clear what it was about, so I clicked through (generally a no-no, but I’ve done it about 3 times simply because the ad made me wonder about what was behind it).

What is this an ad for? It’s an ad for ACTON Marketing LLC, of Lincoln Nebraska, and what they are selling is a method to get people to sign up for NSF (insufficient funds) overdraft protection.

Yes, those scummy fees on bank cards, and these scummy marketers have a program to try to browbeat people into explicitly opting into those programs, as is now required by law.

So, once again, I am getting advertisements from the dark side,

Please note: once again, that I do not vet, nor do I endorse any ad that appears on my site, and I reserve the right to mock both the ads that appear on my site, as well as the advertisers.

Also, please note, this should be in no way construed as an inducement or a request for my reader(s) to click on any ad that they would not otherwise be inclined to investigate further. This would be a violation of the terms of service for Google Adsense.

OK, I’m Depressed

Well, the New York Times interviewed Mickey Kaus* on the occasion of his run for Senate, which seems to be driven by his need to cock punch DFH’s, though his primary opponent Barbara Boxer is a woman, which kinds of screws up the metaphor.

In any case, he was asked the following:

NYT: How much do they pay you?

Kaus: I had been making in the mid-90s, and then I had to take a pay cut along with everyone else, and I was making in the 80s. I’m fortunate to make any money as a blogger. There are some who make more. Most of them work for The Atlantic.

Well, Brad Delong runs the numbers, and comes up with the following:

Mickey Kaus has written 54 posts in the past ten weeks–that’s an average of 5.4 posts for each week in which he makes $1,800, or $333 a weblog post. This seems to me to be way out of line–suggesting some major source of labor-market monopoly is preventing Slate from rationalizing its labor costs.

(emphasis original)

Well, remember when I commented that I had made 10,625 Posts over the past 2¾ Years, and the first time that anyone asked to run an ad specifically on my content, it was for that bung dropper video?

The sum total of my creative value is two checks, each for a bit over $100, and a 3rd one should be coming shortly, probably this month as I am less than a dollar away from the check cutting threshold.

This here is post number 10,710 so let’s figure that I will have gotten $315 for about 10,900 posts, or about 2.9¢ a post.

If I figured it on a per word basis, I think that I’d retire to a monastery in Tibet, and I hate Yak butter.

Still, who reads Kaus? Seriously.

*Who has still not denied that he blows goats.
I was turned down, because I could not demonstrate ownership, it ain’t mine, and because they were concerned that butchering a carcass was not “family safe”.

2¾ Years, 10,625 Posts,* and ………

The sum total of my creative value

And the first time that anyone contacts me about their desire to advertise is for my film of a tool that removes the anus from a carcass.

Your video Jarvis Products Bung Dropper in Action has become popular on YouTube, and you’re eligible to apply for the YouTube Partnership Program, which allows you to make money from playbacks of your video.

The You Tube Team

Well, now I understand my worth as a content creator.

Going through the process was pretty easy, since I already have a Google Adsense account.

Since I’m only a few bucks away from a payout, I figure that the vid should get me there a month sooner.

*Great googly moogly, I just ran the numbers, and it’s over 10,000 posts! So much tripe in so little time.

Google Ads: Please Get a F%$#ing Clue!!!!!!

I’d Sooner Kiss a Wookie!

Oh, for Pete’s* sake!!!!

I don’t know why this happens, but once again Google™ Adsense™ has taking my stridently liberal rants, and decided that they need to use this as a platform for some right wing Scaife supported welfare case.

In this case, it’s the Dennis Rodman of the conservative movement,§ Ann Coulter.

This is getting Seriously old.

*And just who is this Petey guy anyway?
Ummm……I know who “Pete” refers to, the alter ego of Spiderman.
OK, I know that this is not the case, I am making a joke, I can use “the Google” just like everyone else.
§I’m not comparing breast size, but comparing their need to be outrageous because it’s their shtick, and so they have to keep topping themselves.

So Google™ Adsense™ Serves Up Another Steaming Load of Crap

Yep, they’ve served up another one, which claims (it’s an animated flash with sections I did not screen capture) that going to your doctor will be like going to the DMV, and that you will have to wait 100 days for an appointment.

I’m not sure why these folks are paying money (fractions of a 1¢ unless there is a click through) for a posts that lambaste them, but their mouths to my wallet, I guess.

Still, I find it vaguely annoying that these c*cks*ck*rs are using my writing to promote their lies.

Once again, no link, because you they shouldn’t have the traffic.

Why Sarah Palin’s Book is a “Best Seller”, or More Stupid Google™ Adsense™ Tricks

Yes, once again, the good folks at Google Adsense are serving up an advertisement for Sarah Palin in response to something that I posted (just the image, no link, not ever).

My disclaimers are below, but in this case, I clicked through, something that Google Adsense frowns upon if you do it routinely, to see what exactly this offer was.

Well, here is a screen-shot of the page from Newsmax:

(click for full size)

There, is, of course, a pattern here. You have people who are rich because of dumb luck in the genetic lottery, people with names like Scaife Olin, Bradley, Coors, and Koch, who are spending huge amounts of money that they inherited from daddy, or grand daddy, or great-grand daddy on the right wing machine.

They subsidize the publisher that prints the Palin book. They subsidize the propaganda sheet that offers the book free with a 1 year subscription, or for $4.95 (plus $5.95 shipping and handling, which means that they must use a unicorn to get the book to you) with a 4 months of Newsmax free.

What does this get?

  • Inflates Newsmax circulation numbers artificially.
  • Increases Newsmax ad revenue.
  • Inflates the sales of Going Rouge artificially.
  • Generates buzz for Going Rouge because its sales numbers looks high.

All of which adds credibility to both the book, and to the magazine, because, much like the late, unlamented New York Sun, their claim to credibility is based on circulation, and their circulation is based on paying people to take their parakeet cage liner.

In any case, back to the ads.

Please note, once again: once again, that I do not vet, nor do I endorse any ad that appears on my site, and I reserve the right to mock both the ads that appear on my site, as well as the advertisers who purchase those ads through Google Adsense.

Also, please note, this should be in no way construed as an inducement or a request for my reader(s) to click on any ad that they would not otherwise be inclined to investigate further. This would be a violation of the terms of service for Google Adsense, even though it would make me money, and cost them (Palin’s Publishers and Newsmax) money.

Complaints About Google Ads…..AGAIN

Once again, the geniuses at Google Adsense have served up an ad which appears diametrically opposed to what I write about.

I saw this on Monday, but I’ve set it to post on Tuesday at 10:00am, because driving watchers to the interview might lead other news folks to interview her in search of ratings.

Another Ad Served by Google™ Adsense™

Yeah, I just saw this ad on my blog. (No link, not even if by clicking on it you cost them money, and send their money to me.)

I don’t know about you, but I’d really like to wipe the f%$#ing smirks off their f%$#ing faces.

Of course, then I look at the ineffectual wimpiness “eleventy dimensional chess” coming from the White House, and I lose all interest in doing anything.

In any case, please consider this to be a formal disavowal of the ad. I do not police my ads. They are separate from editorial.

This statement also applies to the Newt Gingrich newsletter advertisement, and all suchlike.

I figure that they waste their money here, and I’ll spent the wasted money on taking Sharon* out to dinner.

*Love of my life, light of the cosmos, she who must be obeyed, my wife.

More Google Ads Mishugas

So I come across this add when I bring up my blog, an add offering “Ann Coulter Free” (no link, I don’t want to drive her traffic).

I do not involve myself in what Google® Adsense® serves, I just make fun of them when it they get it wrong, and this ad is very, very wrong.

Truth be told, I don’t want Ann Coulter free, I want Ann Coulter in jail for vote fraud.

OK, Google™ Adsense™ is Just Fracked

I’m looking at my blog page, and I have a post excoriating David Frum, and what do I see beneath?

An ad. An ad for “free grants for Republicans”.

As I’ve said before, I do not vet my ads, but when I see something like this, I make fun of them.

This might honk off the sponsor, but their deal is with Adsense, who should know better that to do ad pitches to ‘Phants on my site.

I’m not worried about the loss of revenue either…I’m generating about $11/month.

On the other hand, if one of you sees a similarly stupid ad, send me a screenshot, and I will make fun of them too.

As a side note, I thought that the ad for the RC model jet fighters was kind of cool.

(No link, just the picture, because the link could be as an inducement to fraudulently click through, which violates Google Adsense terms of service.)

I Got My First Check from Google™ Adsense

OK, it’s not really a check, I went with electronic funds transfer.

It’s ad revenue, and let me note that I do not endorse, and sometimes I mock, the ads that show up, so click if you through, you do so at your own risk.

I would also note that I am not attempting to induce you to click the ads that you would otherwise not be inclined to click. Advertisers do not appreciate fraud.

If there is any virtue that I bring to this endeavor, it is that I don’t harbor much in the way delusions of adequacy.

I hit $107.24 at the end of September, I just saw the EFT on the 27th..

Hmmmm…That’s $107.24 for 5857 posts over 17 months, or about 1.83 ¢/post… …Damn……A newspaper publisher would love me, but it makes me feel depressed.

I know, if I divide by the number of worthwhile posts…..That’s about $33.41 a post, which is reassuring, in a self deluding way.

You get a payment each time your balance breaks $100.

This payment I am spending on my anniversary dinner with my wife, which is delayed for lack of babysitting, once again proving that marriage is the single most expensive way ever devised to get laid.

I promise to have a beer at dinner, since I kind of sort of promised:

As to where the proceeds go, and at the rate I’m going I’ll get my first check around 2011, they will go to things like beer (or Slivovitz) for me, or taking my wife out to dinner.

And as much as I like Slivovitz, it really does not go with a good quality meal.

Credit Where Credit is Due

I think that Google® Adsense® got it right this time with my post calling bankers wankers:*

Back in December and January, when John McCain was spending money like…well…John McCain, every time I called him a sick, old man, adsense would serve one of his “Death Star” ads, but this time, when I posted something about whining bankers, and they served an ad for “My Name is Earl” and “The Office“, which seems most apropos.

Please note that this is not an inducement for my reader(s) to click on the ads, which is a violation of the Google® Adsense® terms of service.

*Hmmm….there is a rhyme there gotta try and make a rap of it.

Why My Posting has Been Light Lately

Things are fracked up busy.

  • Desperately trying to learn the ins and outs of feeds, and how to get Google ads on them.
  • Switching from lots of links to Google RSS reader.
  • Lost my job.
  • Dropped my cell phone in the toilet, needed to chase down a replacement.
  • Still working on my 1987 taxes (big refund coming, I am a bloody idiot).
  • Trying to get in some Torah study in while I have the chance.
  • Trying to resuscitate a Minyan in the area.

Still, you learn something new every day. I’m about 8 bucks from my first Adsense check, and according to the Maryland DOL, I have to declare it when I file for unemployment.
