Irony and Schadenfreude Alert

Doug Manchester, hotelier and big money backer of “traditional marriage” defender in California, he spent big on proposition 8, is getting a divorce from his wife of 43 years.

What’s more, it appears that he is doing his level best to play hardball with his soon to be ex, draining joint accounts, concealing assets, and stiffing some of his grand children on private school tuitions.

Now, there is some marriage that we can stand behind.

So, Who is Representative Heath Shuler (D-NC) F%$#ing?

Because it appears that he lives at the C Street complex too.

Considering the fact that it increasingly appears that the primary purpose of this residence is to allow philandering Congressman to collude to conceal the fact, it’s become a much less popular place to lose.

At the very least he’s refusing to explicitly deny that this is where he lives, and if he weren’t living there, he’d be categorically denying.

You know it was much easier answering the question, “W is Heath Shuler f%$#ing?,” when he was an overpriced underperforming rookie for the Washington Redskins.

When that was going on, we knew who was being f%#$ed: the fans, who at the end of the day were the ones who supplied the money to pay his salary.

Yeah, I’m still a bit bitter about it.

A Republican Proposes a “Bristol Palin” Tax

That name may not be entirely fair, since it the tax would also apply disproportionately to Republican lawmakers, particularly those living on the now infamous “C Street” Christo-Fascist funded residences.

I’m of mixed emotions here. A tax on unprotected sex is a really stupid idea, but the idea of making Bristol Palin, and the residents of “C Street” pay an “Ass Tax”, amuses me no end.

And here we thought paying for sex was a no-no, especially for scandal-wary Members of Congress. But Rep. Steve Buyer thinks people who engage in the act (specifically, the kind that takes place sans protection) should have to pony up.

The Indiana Republican floated his unlikely cash-for-sex proposal Thursday during the markup of the health care bill in the Energy and Commerce Committee. Under the plan Buyer posited, those who engage in risky behavior, like smoking, not exercising and (ding, ding!) having unprotected sex, should have to pay a premium for their health care. After all, the reasoning goes, those people are more likely to incur higher health care costs than cigarette-eschewing, condom-wearing gym bunnies.

The distinguished gentleman from Indiana had to have been a College Republican, he was born in 1958, so he’s of roughly the right age, and this is a classic sort of juvenile CR bullsh%$.

Are there any grown-up Republicans left in Congress?

Light Night Comics Must Love Republicans

Because this stuff writes itself.

Case in point, the rebounding scandal of John Ensign’s affair and his payoff of his mistress and her husband, where we now discover that , “His lawyer has just released a remarkable statement saying that Ensign’s parents paid the Hamptons $96,000 after the 51-year-old senator told his Mom and Dad about the affair.”

Republican family values….Things go bad, and rich daddy bails you out.

And a Penile Plethysmograph*

On the by invitation only Stellar Parthenon BBS, a bunch of us were discussing the fact that South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s nookie run to Argentina was paid for by the taxpayers of the state, and Pickapeppa wrote, “I think it should be mandatory that all government officials be outfitted with GPS tracking chips.”

I think that the instrumentality suggested is not sufficient for the task envisioned.

*Seriously, just f@#$ing Google it.

Mark Sanford Returns from Narnia*

My bad, he was in Argentina, not hiking in Appalachia.

Oh, and while he was there, he was screwing some chippie, as he admitted at his press conference.

Real classy guy. He apologized to his girl friend and the press before he apologized to his wife, see video below.

He’s resigning as chairman of the Republican Governors’ Association, which means that he’s suffered enough, so <Chris Crocker>leave Sanford alone!!!</Chris Crocker>

Meanwhile, the emails between the two of them have been leaked, and the late night comics will have a field day with this.

*Not my joke, I got it from Cthulhu.
No, not the unspeakably malevolent super-being, the contributor to the Shortskoolbus BBS.
OK, I’ve never seen the two of them together, so Cthulhu might actually be the Cthulu, but the mere fact that he is on a BBS, interacting with humans§ would seem to mitigate against this.
§Yes, I know, this is the internet, where no one knows if you are a dog.

Sounds to Me Like Another Republican Spending a Few Days In the Closet

One of the odd bit of news right now is that South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has gone missing.

He ditched his security detail, he’s turned off his cell phones, and no one can find him.

The interesting quote in the above story is from his wife:

Neither his wife, nor the state’s lieutenant governor, nor police officials know where he is, South Carolina newspapers reported.

But Jenny Sanford told the Associated Press she wasn’t worried.

“He was writing something and wanted some space to get away from the kids,” she said while vacationing with the couple’s four sons.

(emphasis mine)

She sounds to me like someone who is studiously avoiding trying to find the answer to this.

The real issue here is not Mark Sandford’s personal life. It’s the concern that self-hating individuals, and the closet does imply self-loathing, do not make good decisions on the public policy.

Here is a question, how many straight Republicans who practice marital fidelity does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: Either one can do it themselves.

Update:
The governor has been located.

He has been hiking along the Appalachian Trail….Yeah, sure, I believe that.

A commenter on the 2nd link nails it:

The only reason this guy would have hiked the Appalachian Trail is because he wanted to visit the Home of Deliverance–thinking that the movie was a love story.

Brads77 owes me a screen wipe.

Obama Getting Hammered on Selling Out Gays

It’s got the Human Rights Campaign up in arms, finally.

They’ve been a captive of the Obama administration for some time, and it’s nice that they have found some guts.

What’s more it looks like people are bailing from the DNC’s very high profile $1000 a person gay fundraiser as a result.

Additionally, the New York Times blasted Obama on his call to defend the law, noting that Obama’s assertion that the DoJ was compelled to defend the statute is simply not true.

Obama Comes Out for DOMA

Americablog. has the scoop.

Basically, an Obama DoJ appointee made motions in a court case challenging the Defense of Marriage Act, and while I guess that there is an obligation for them to defend statute, the filing invoked pedophilia, called gays freeloaders, and generally invoked every bigoted right-wing talking point out there.

On the stump, he condemned DOMA.

Even better, today is the 42nd anniversary of Loving v. Virginia.

I would not hold my breath on a repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

I told you so after the whole Donnie McClurkin thing.

Palau????

Seriously, I’ll always take pneumonia (Obama/Biden) over metastasized lung cancer (McCain/Palin) any day, but the cowardice we are seeing over the Guantanamo detainees, particularly the Uighurs, from both the White House and Democrats in Congress is truly revolting.

We abducted them with out evidence or cause, then tortured them at the request of the Chinese Communists, and held them for 7 years, and now, in order to wash their hands of a truly repulsive Republican talking point, Obama is bribing the government of Palau to the tune of $200 million, or about $10,000.00 for every man, woman, and child in that tiny pacific nation, so that he can ship them off to there, as opposed to bringing them to the US, where there is a large community, and they would have some sort of support structure.

This is truly an exercise in cowardice.
