It appears that Paperwhite is one such individual.A he said / he said misunderstanding? Seriously, that’s what Larry Craig (R-My Own Private Idaho) is saying?
LOL!!!! I wish I had thought of “My Own Private Idaho“.
Look, closeted gay self-hating Republicans, wouldn’t it just be easier if you could just lay it all out there, something like this:
I’m a rich white guy who has nothing but contempt for poor people, worships Mammon, knows that the babymaking apparatus means that women aren’t really full persons, and thinks that blowing shit up is the extent of foreign policy, so vote for me! Oh, and I’m really into other guys. Yes, in that way.
Word up. This guy can write.
The news about Senator Larry Craig is actually sad. No one should have to deny themselves to hold a political position.
What is more telling is how many closeted gays/bis there are at relatively high levels in the Republican party, Larry Craig, Lindsay Graham, Ken Mehlman, and persistent rumors about Karl Rove and Denny Hastert, for example.
The flip thing to do would be to suggest that people who hate themselves tend to be Republicans, but I think that it is something far more mundane. Closeted gays are non-threatening.
No matter how energetic they might be, or how devoted they might be to the cause, they are always going to be in subordinate positions, because if the try for the brass ring, they know that their fellow Republicans will destroy them.
Oklahoma has a lay which forbids recognition of gay adoptions. The federal court of appeals struck down down the law. It violates the U.S. Constitution’s Full Faith and Credit Clause, which requires states to honor one another’s judicial judgments, including adoptions.
Good news. The law was mean spirited, Un-American, and probably got the full endorsement of both the Taliban and Al-Queida.
This article praises him for reaching across the aisle to right wingers.
I understand that he can’t be Paul Wellstone, but we need no more Liebermans.
Cases in point:
So he’s a lying sack of excrement DINO Dem, but I repeat myself.
Note that his re-election is a priority of the DCCC, so I would suggest that you give either directly to the candidates, or someone like Act Blue.
FWIW, any DCCC money going to him is largely wasted anyway. Last time, he ran against a guy who was being sued for choking his mistress. Won’t happen again.
The DCCC should not throw good money after bad.

If a member of the DCCC wants to dispute this, I’ll publish it, unedited.
On the radio today, I heard reports that Ahmad Jibril, leader of the PFLP has said that senior officials in Fatah have confirmed that Arafat has died of AIDS.
A quick goggle revealed no particularly mainstream reports of this. I know nothing of the provenance of Israel Today, the source of the above link, and Mr. Jibril would have a number of reasons to lie anyway.
That being said, I do have my definitive opinion on the significance of this report.
It has no significance at all.
What is significant about Yassir Arafat is that he was an incompetent, corrupt, and cowardly figure whose position in life derived from who he was related, his uncle was mufti of Jerusalem, rather than any abilities on his own.
He pretty much failed, and failed spectacularly at everything he did, though he did manage to spin things to his favor.
In a word, he is not the Palestinians George Washington, but rather he is the Palestinians George W. Bush.
Clearances for Felons?
SSCI Warns Against Clearances for Ex-Convicts.
The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence endorsed a statutory prohibition that prevents the Department of Defense from granting security clearances to former convicts who have served a year or more in jail, individuals who are mentally incompetent, are drug addicts, or have been dishonorably discharged from the military. The Pentagon had requested a repeal of that provision, first enacted in 2000, and the request was approved by the Senate Armed Services Committee.
“The [Intelligence] Committee understands DoD’s desire to have more flexibility to give clearances to otherwise qualified individuals who are currently barred from receiving or renewing their security clearances.”
…
They are so short on people that they want to clear felons?
But still, they are engaging in anti-gay witchunts.
Welcome to our broken military.
I’m not sure if Daniel Ellis was being honest, or just thought he had a good way to get out of jury duty when he called himself a racist, homophobic liar.
Kind of a no win situation.
In either case, he spent some time cooling his heels in jail.
Make no doubt about it. This was an attempt by the school administrators to punish both girls for being gay, and not only should they never be allowed to set foot in a school again, those responsible should be put in jail.
Grrrr…..
Girl caught kissing says school misused cameras

GIG HARBOR, Wash. — A girl caught kissing her girlfriend on a school security camera says the videotape should have never been shown to her friend’s parents.Seventeen-year-old Jenna Johnson and her mother say Gig Harbor High School invaded Jenna’s privacy.
“I think it was really misinterpreted because it was just a little kiss, and they brought religion into it and it shouldn’t have happened this way,” Jenna said.
Her mother, Deborah Johnson, said she thinks it never would have happened if it was a video of a boy and a girl.

Bar-exam flunker sues: Wannabe rejects gay-wed question
By Donna Goodison
Friday, July 6, 2007 – Updated: 08:15 AM ESTA Boston man who failed the Massachusetts bar exam has filed a federal lawsuit claiming his refusal to answer a test question – related to gay marriage – caused him to flunk the test.
Stephen Dunne, 30, is suing the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners and the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, claiming the “inappropriate” test question violated his religious convictions and his First Amendment rights. Answering the question, Dunne claims, would imply he endorsed gay marriage and parenting.
The suit also challenges the constitutionality of the 2003 SJC ruling that made Massachusetts the nation’s first state to legalize same-sex marriage.
Dunne, who describes himself as a Christian and a Democrat, is seeking $9.75 million in damages and wants a jury to prohibit the Board of Bar Examiners from considering the question in his passage of the exam and to order it removed from all future exams.
“There’s a different forum for that contemporary issue to be discussed, and it’s inappropriate to be on a professional licensing examination,” Dunne told the Herald. “You don’t see questions about partial-birth abortion or abortion on there.”
Dunne scored a 268.866 on the bar exam, just missing a passing grade of 270. The exam question at issue concerns two married lesbian attorneys and their rights regarding a house and two children when one decides to end the marriage.
“Yesterday, Jane got drunk and hit (her spouse) Mary with a baseball bat, breaking Mary’s leg, when she learned that Mary was having an affair with Lisa,” the bar exam question stated. “As a result, Mary decided to end her marriage with Jane in order to live in her house with Philip, Charles and Lisa. What are the rights of Mary and Jane?”
Dunne claims the question was used as a “screening device” to identify and penalize him for “refusing to subscribe to a liberal ideology based on ‘secular humanism,’ ”according to his lawsuit.
“Homosexual conduct is inconsistent with (Dunne’s) Christian practices, beliefs and values, which are protected by the First Amendment,” the lawsuit states.
“I respect people with alternative lifestyles, and we must do that in a civil society,” Dunne said. “I just have a different opinion that millions of people share with me, and I believe that my opinion should be respected just as much as (pro-gay) opinions. I have no intent in spreading hatred or discrimination.”
In his court documents, Dunne described homosexuality as a “voluntary human behavior that is changeable.”
“Societal recognition and perpetuation of rampant homosexuality is neither prudent nor wise,” his lawsuit states.

New York’s state Assembly approves gay marriage bill
Tuesday, June 19, 2007
By MARC HUMBERT
Associated Press WriterALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Legislation to legalize same-sex marriage in New York, sponsored by the openly gay brother of entertainer Rosie O’Donnell and supported by Gov. Eliot Spitzer, was approved 85-61 by the state Assembly Tuesday after an often emotional three-hour debate.
Despite the victory for supporters of the legislation, the bill is not expected to be acted on any time soon in the Republican-led state Senate.
In opening the Assembly debate, Manhattan Democrat Daniel O’Donnell told his colleagues that civil union, a process permitted in neighboring Vermont, wasn’t good enough.
“It will not provide equality for people like me,” he said.
But Assemblyman Brian Kolb, taking note of “the nuns who taught me in grammar school” and his marriage in the Catholic Church, said he could not support the move.
“I do feel threatened. I do feel harmed,” said the Canandaigua Republican. “It’s a direct challenge to me and how I was brought up.”
Democrat Dov Hikind, an Orthodox Jew from Brooklyn, warned the measure could lead to other proposals he found objectionable.
“Maybe we should include incest in the bill and sort of deal with the whole package at one time,” said Hikind.”

Pams House Blend has a number of articles on this.
When you look at the advice he gave the Kerry in 2004 (from Politico):
A version of this story is already in print. In 2004, Newsweek reported, without a named source, that Bill Clinton had suggested Kerry “to back local bans on gay marriage.”
Shrum has more, and different, detail:
…”Kerry, Clinton ventured, should consider defying Democratic interest groups by endorsing the Bush proposal for a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.” Shrum reports that “this was a flip-flop too far for Kerry.”
You also have a report from Newsweek in 2004:
Clinton Advice Spurned. Looking for a way to pick up swing voters in the Red States, former President Bill Clinton, in a phone call with Kerry, urged the Senator to back local bans on gay marriage. Kerry respectfully listened, then told his aides, “I’m not going to ever do that.”
You also have his spinelessness on the Military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
And you have him actively campaigning in the back rooms in 2004 against Howard Dean, because he felt that Dr. Dean’s signature of civil unions in VT would “kill his campaign”.
I don’t think that this from a Sistah Soljah type sense of politics, but rather from a deep seated discomfort with gays.
