We now have Robin Leach excusing John McCain for not knowing how many homes he has, because he would, “call it honest confusion.”
Let’s see….Robin Leach, former host of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, is defending John McCain for not being able to remember how many homes he owns….Seriously, ou cannot make this sh&% up…really.
This is beyond even the Nostradamus-Like genius of The Onion.

Biden will make an excellent attack dog during the campaign, though he is a bit too hawkish in terms of foreign policy for my taste.
That’s the funny part. The sign of the Apocalypse is that the beltway pundits are starting to notice that most of McCain’s sentences are a noun, a verb, and POW.
We have Newsweek‘s Howard Fineman, Time‘s Anna Marie “Wonkette” Cox, and Politico‘s Ben Smith all saying, “Give it a rest”.

But when he resorts to these kinds of falsehoods, and casts such aspersions on his opponent’s patriotism, John McCain is no longer putting his country first. If he were, he would recognize that the interests of the nation require a relatively truthful campaign. To fulfill his image of himself, McCain should stop lying about his opponent. For a man with his claims to honor and integrity, that’s not too much to ask.
This is a word that you never see in political writing. Ever.
I’m beginning to think that the sick old man is losing his base, the Beltway pundits…..Please make this so.
*No offense intended toward the talent Ms. Maddow. She has been out, and proud, for years.
Ms. Pritzker, Barack Obama’s campaign finance chairwoman was, as I’ve noted earlier, chairman of the board for Superior Bank of Chicago, the bank that pioneered the subprime and predatory loans as a business model, that collapsed in 2001.
It’s likely that at some point this will become an issue, but to the degree that she invites reporters to cover her, as she clearly does here, she makes it even more likely.
The article is innocuous enough, it really is quite favorable, but it raises her public profile, which makes her a more likely target.
Given the current state of affairs in banking and housing, I cannot imagine anyone, in any campaign, who would not use her background against any campaign with which she was associated.
She needs to keep her head down.

Of course, the “completely fair” Andrea “Bubbles” Mitchell, and the rest of the Beltway bunch will figure out a way for it not to be him being confused, or actually suggesting that he would restart the draft.
It appears that there is a rumor that Caroline Kennedy’s name is being floated as a VP pick for Obama.
She is on the selection committee, and the author of the article, Alexander Mooney, draws a comparison to Dick Cheney, who was on the selection committee.
The problem is that she ain’t Dick Cheney. It would be another Kennedy affirmative action hire, like Kathleen Kennedy Townsend in Maryland, or Sargent Shriver for McGovern’s running mate after Tom Eagleton bowed out.
Please, God no.
I’m not sure what surprises me more, that someone in the press said this, that it came from the Startlegram (Fort Worth Star-Telegram my paper when I lived in Arlington, TX), or that the people who wrote this are senior members of the conservative CATO institute, which is heavily funded by the usual suspects, including Richard Mellon Scaife, but Ted Galen Carpenter and Malou Innocent get it completely when they say that , “Indeed, the record indicates that McCain’s own judgment is alarmingly bad.
They describe him as a, “Clear and present danger in the Oval Office.”
I’m wondering if conservatives are starting to tiptoe for the exits regarding the sick old man.
Sorry, but Mr. Obama, you are being a wimp.
Begging for McCain to lay off makes you look weak. Your message should be that, “John McCain will say and do anything to be president.”

AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Trumka just cut Bob Rubin a new one:
Blaming unfettered global trade and inadequate government regulation for lost manufacturing jobs and a staggering economy, Trumka’s presentation cautions that “it will do us little good if, when the next Democrat moves into the White House, Wall Street takes command of our country’s economic policy.”
Trumka leaves no doubt that the rebuke is aimed at Rubin, Wall Street’s most prominent Democrat. It’s “hard to tell the difference” between Rubin and Republican Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, the presentation says. Trumka’s critique reflects the concern among organized-labor officials that Rubin and like- minded Democrats may win the behind-the-scenes battle to shape Obama’s economic thinking.
“I’m hearing Rubin’s name more and more associated with the campaign’s economic policy,” says James Torrey, a top Obama fundraiser and chief executive officer of New York-based Torrey Associates LLC, a hedge-fund investor.
Further down in the article, it notes that Obama is talking up a strong dollar policy, a shibboleth of Bob Rubin.
This is a bad sign, and not just because it indicates a tilt toward Rubin. It’s also no longer sustainable, and tremendously damaging to the economy, at least if you are not a big ticket stock broker like Bob Rubin.
The fact is that much of the Clinton administrations economic policy was driven by Rubin, and it was not Democratic Party economics, it was Eisenhower Republican economics, and the credit crunch is largely a function of these policies now coming home to roost.
He, of course, paraphrases Senator Joseph Biden, when he says, “A Noun, A Verb, POW in response to the story that John McCain was in a position to hear the questions that Saddleback church pastor Rick Warren put to Barack Obama, and so get a leg up on his responses.

That should be a talking point from the Obama campaign, but direct it at the McCain campaign, not at the candidate, so it won’t seem disrespectful.
Both Obama and the Democratic National Committee outraised their Republican counterparts in July.
Obama raised $51 million, as compared to McCain’s $27 million, and the DNC raised 27.7 million, as compared to the RNC’s $26 million, the first time that the DNC has outraised the RNC since 2004.
Happy dance time, though the combined cash on hand is about $94.3 million Obama + DNC vs $96 million McCain + RNC, because the DNC has spent a lot of money on Dean’s 50 state strategy.
I’m stunned. This time, when Jerome Corsi comes out with a book, the press is noting that his book is unsupported by the facts, and that Corsi is a bigoted cook kook.
As writer Greg Mitchell notes, even Nedra Pickler is saying that the emperor has no clothes.
John McCain just freaked out conservatives by saying that Tom Ridge’s support for abortion rights would not rule him out as a VP pick.
This means that Lieberman might be on the short list too, as he is (barely) pro-choice, and I think that most of the freaking out is about the possibility of Joementum on the ticket. It’s not abortion, it’s pulling the lever for a Yid that gets to them.
In unrelated, except that it’s bad, news, Andrew McCain, John’s son sat on the audit committee of Silver State Bancorp until January of this year, bailing just before they posted enormous losses:
As of June 30, the bank said 14% of its $1.96 billion in total assets were nonperforming, up from 0.75% six months earlier. A year ago, its shares were trading for more than $18 on the Nasdaq Stock Market. They closed Thursday at 83 cents in Nasdaq 4 p.m. trading. The loss restatement was released after the market close.
And little Andy was on the audit committee, and bailed out before they started to tank.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I understand the reality of the situation, but it’s still very silly.

Joe “I’d Call him a Schmuck, but a Schmuck has a Head” Lieberman is now claiming that, “Obama hasn’t put the country first,” and the McCain campaign, despite John Sidney McCain III’s promise that he and his campaign would not question his patriotism, is endorsing the statement.
Obama needs to hit back, hard, because he has just been bitch slapped, and if he just takes it, it makes the statement that he’s, “Someone who can’t or won’t defend themselves certainly isn’t someone you can depend upon to defend you.” (link)
