Classy Fans

I really did not have a dog in the hunt in either NFL conference championship, though my wife is a Pats fan, but I came across the story about Packer fans, I was impressed. It seems that the Packers asked for help cleaning the snow off the seats in Lambeau field, and over 800 showed up.

True, they got paid $8/hour, but in Green Bay in January, I’d need a lot more than that to shovel someone else’s snow.

Hail to the Redskins!

27-6 over Americas Team Most Wanted.

Dallas had all of 1 yard rushing. Was Jessica Simpson in the crowd or something?

Hail to the Redskins!
Hail Victory!
Braves on the Warpath!
Fight for old D.C.!
Run or pass and score — we want a lot more!
Beat ’em, Swamp ’em,

FWIW, if you find this song offensive, you should see the original lyrics.

Tom Brady Just Gave My Wife an Orgasm

Monday Night Football, and she’s a Pats fan. With less than a minute to go, he thew a TD to Jabar Gaffney, making it New England 27, Baltimore 24.

Considering how lame the Ravens have been all season, it was an impressive performance against what is probably the best team in pro football.

It ended on the two yard line, with a hail Mary from the Ravens ending up on the 2 year line.

I was expecting 58-3…As was pretty much everyone.

Ravens Line Backer Bart Scott had a meltdown following the interference penalty that set up the TD. I though that his head would explode.

Barry Bonds Indicted

My comment on this entire affair is the following:

Whether one wants to consider his home run record real or not is up to them, but with, or without steroids, Bonds deserves to be in the hall of fame.

I have no clue as to whether race plays into this, but the fact that he never kissed sports writer butt appears to have made the coverage far more hostile than, for example the big wet kiss that the press continues to give Mark McGuire, and no one ever talked about an asterisk with him.

What The Hon. Dr. St. Rev. Bradley S. Rocket, Esq, PhD, MD Said

Sadly, No! » Death, Be Thee Proud And Take Me Now

Basically, he said that Gregg Easterbrook is a wanker.

This time, because of what Easterbrook wrote about the upcoming Colts/Patriots game. Personally, I’m conflicted about the game. I’ve hated, yes hated, the Colts ever since Irsay left Baltimore in the middle of the night, but the Pats just made my beloved Redskins look like a PeeWee football team on Sunday.

That being said, Easterbrook’s latest column, in which he casts the upcoming Colts-Pats game as a battle between good and evil.

Why the hell does anyone pay Easterbrook anything to write? He may write better than I do, who doesn’t, but the man makes Dan Quayle look like Albert Einstein*.

I’ll also say that whatever my feeling about the Pats as folks who just pasted the ‘Skins, they are in a very real way an answer to much of the superstar bad behavior in sport. They are introduced as a team at superbowls, they play as a team, and big mouthed jerks on other teams, go there and become team players.

*To be fair, it’s Albert Einstein the actor, who’s nom de theater is Albert Brooks, but still.
Corey Dillon and Randy Moss come to mind.

Red Sox 13, Bible Thumpers 1

I happen to think that God does not meddle in sporting events, except when people attempt to set themselves as models of piety as the Colorado Rockies have done.

In any real workplace, the EEOC would be on their asses about creating a hostile work environment, and it’s good to see sanctimonious people lose.

Full disclosure: to the degree I follow Baseball, I am a member of Red Sox nation.

On the Patriots Stealing Signals Via Video Tape

Point 1: It’s against the rules, and it should be penalized.

Point 2: It should be legal. I believe that plays should generally be called on the field by the players, generally the QB on offense, and the MLB on defense. I think the constant sending in the plays from the sidelines has diminished the game, and making signal stealing a legal activity would have more players calling their own plays.

Kevin Everett’s Condition Takes a Surprise Turn for the Better

He is able to move is arms and legs to some degree, which at this early stage is very promising.

The medical treatment was interesting:

Green said the key was the quick action taken by Cappuccino to run an ice-cold saline solution through Everett’s system that put the player in a hypothermic state. Doctors at the Miami Project have demonstrated in their laboratories that such action significantly decreases the damage to the spinal cord due to swelling and movement.

It is apparently a fairly new treatment.

Calling Out Oliver Willis: Sports Edition

Normally, I find the distinguished Mr. Willis to be right on the money, but he just blogged about Norv Turner being hired by the Chargers as head coach at San Diego, and he said, “I am wishing nothing but total and absolute failure to the worst coach in Redskins history, Norv Turner“. (Wapo Story)

All I can figure is that Mr. Willis has not been following the Redskins for as long as I have (I moved to Charlottesville, VA in 1969, and we have been a Washington family ever since).

I can conclusively say that any coach who had Christian Adolph “Sonny” Jurgensen III at QB, and did not get a ring is far worse than Norv turner, and I am including the moron George Allen, Sr. who left the Redskins with no first round draft picks for something like seven years.

Lombardi, of course, gets a pass, because he died before he could get them to the big show.

Whatever Bonds has or has not done, he was and is a great player, as was Pete Rose.

Rose, however, crossed a line when he bet on baseball that Bonds has not, and so should not be in the hall of fame until after his death.
