The Frothy Mix of Lube and Fecal Matter That Is Sometimes the Byproduct Of Anal Sex ……… *

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is looking at running for President in 2012.

Part of me is horrified at the prospect of his insanity and demagoguery polluting the Republican Presidential primary campaign, but another part does not believe that it’s possible for the cesspool known as the Republican Party can get any more polluted, and a third part of me is eager to comment on what is surely to be a first class clown show.
Snark Missile
Time to start stockpiling snark.

*If you don’t understand, you have been living under a rock, but the answer is only a Google away.
While he lived in Virginia, and had no home in Pennsylvania, which is a neat trick.

People Who Should Have Been Drowned at Birth

Jeffrey Lord, writing, rather unsurprisingly, for The American Spectator, who claims that the lynching of her relative, Bobby Hall, because they beat him to death instead of hanging him.

So, according to the “white cracker inbred former Reagan White House political director” morons out there, it’s only a lynching if it involves rope.

At least ⅓ of lynchings did not involve hangings. They involved burning, shooting, and (Yes, Virginia) beating, among other methods.

Needless to say, as a result of his contemptible and brain dead rants, he is sure to be invited onto the Sunday political talk shows.

Cowards.

When people talk about DFH* bloggers hating on the Obama they seem to think that its all about Obama being a pragmatist. It isn’t about his being a pragmatist.

It’s about his, and his people being abject cowards, who soil themselves when someone on the right wing shouts out a lie.

Case in point, Shirley Sherrod, USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development, who was just fired for a yet another deceptively edited video from professional bigot Andrew Breitbart.

You see, she gave a talk about how when she was working helping farmers, when the first white farmer came to her for help, the thought crossed her mind was not to help, because they were white, but she realized almost as soon as the thought hit her that it was wrong.

Well after excerpting 30 seconds out of a 45+ minute speech (see below), so that Fox News could go “Oh noes! N*****s are trying to take over America.”

The response of the Secretary of Agriculture was to fire her before any real facts came out.

I am with what Digby said:

“Her decision ‘rightly or wrongly” will be called into question” because some right wing hitman put out an edited tape that makes her sound as if her point is the opposite of what it is, so she had to be fired.

They are telling wingnuts everywhere that all they have to do is gin up a phony controversy (especially about a black person, apparently) and the administration will fire them so as not to shake confidence that they are “fair service providers.”

This is sheer cowardice.

This is what pisses people off.

Bloody Morons

So, the Senate, now that Byrd’s temporary replacement has been sworn in, but they got it wrong.

They extended benefits through November. You should have extended it only to October, and then jam up the Republicans when they vote against it just before the election.

I understand that Congressmen don’t like to be in DC in October of an election year, but being there to vote for an unemployment extension is the best campaigning that you can do.

The Sun Glasses Conceal the Tears

After using a non-existent word, “Refudiate,” in a twitter post, Sarah Palin compares herself with William Shakespeare, who she notes may have made up some words too.

In related news, it now turns out that Sarah Palin knows nothing about Alaska either, claiming that Kodiak is the largest island in the United States. (It isn’t, it’s Hawaii, aka the “Big Island,” where Palin lived briefly)

Oh for the day when she gets a few wrinkles, and fades into well deserved obscurity, so that I can put her on my list of They Who Must Not Be Named, but as she is still a political figure about which people speculate on her Presidential prospects, I do not feel comfortable putting my hands over my ears and saying, “I can’t hear you!”

When Calls Harry Reid You a Wimp………

You have a very serious problem:

In an interview on Friday with Jon Ralston, one of the top political reporters in Nevada, Reid was asked for examples of things he disagreed with Obama on. Reid said there are multiple things. When asked for a further explanation by Ralston, Reid’s answer came down more to process and style, rather than substance.

“I think that he is on many occasions — I shouldn’t say on many occasions, on a few occasions — I think he should have been more firm with those on the other side of the aisle,” said Reid. “He is a person who doesn’t like confrontation. He’s a peacemaker. And sometimes I think you have to be a little more forceful. And sometimes I don’t think he is enough with the Republicans.”

Ralston asked Reid for an example.

“Health care,” Reid responded. “That went on for many months. And I think much of that early on scrimmaging was done in the Senate itself, and the White House didn’t come in until later. Now, we came up with a great product, and I’m sure he can look back and say I was right, but boy for me down in the trenches, I know it was a time when I wanted a few folks in the White House behind me.”

Ralston then suggested that Reid was saying Obama wasn’t strong enough.

“He’s a very strong man. He’s calm, he’s cool, he’s deliberate,” Reid responded. “But as I just said, I think sometimes he — I would like him to be more confrontational. He isn’t, that’s who he is. My saying this isn’t gonna make him that way. I know who he is, and I understand him.”

Harry Reid just called Barack Obama a wimp, though I think that he pointedly stayed away from calling him a “bitch”. (The strong man comment)

Seriously, it’s time for an intervention with Barack Obama.

We need to send him for a few weeks to the Betty Ford Mike Ditka clinic.

You Cannot Negotiate With the Insane

A hack writer once said that, “A gaffe is when a politician tells the truth.”*

Well, John Kyle just had a bit of a gaffe.

He just said that tax cuts never need to be paid for, just spending:

You cannot run a hospital with people who believe in bleeding and leeches.

There is simply no basis for rational cooperation with moonbats.

[on edit]

I should note that insanity is the best spin on what Kyle said. A more likely interpretation is that the real goal here is to create deficits at such a level that cuts government, particularly to social services, are inevitable.

It’s called, “starve the beast.”

H/t Ezra Klein.

*Michael Kinsley, who is evidence that mindless contrarianism is never a substitute for real insight.
Yes, I am aware of the fact that there are actually medical treatments that involve bleeding and leeches, most notably iron poisoning and reattaching limbs, it’s a metaphor.
But of course, we must never ever reign in our bloated wasteful Pentagon.

Can We Please Give Texas Back to Mexico?

Texas has a concealed carry law, something that it did not have when I lived there, but one of the consequences there is make things more convenient for lobbyists in Austin:

……Well, I hear from a friend that lobbyists visiting the Texas state capitol building have started applying for concealed carry licenses. Why? Because as you pass through the metal detector to get into the capitol building, there’s a separate – basically empty – line for people who have a license to carry a concealed weapon. So the lobbyists are applying for the license in order to take the short line.

The body politic of the great state of Texas is a maggot ridden zombie……With a case of the clap.

Poor Implementation of Technology

2 weeks ago, we bought a Mazda5 mini-minivan, a 2009 with about 36K miles on it.

On Tuesday, with the temperatures well over 100°, the “Check Engine” light went on.

So, my wife calls the dealer, it’s still under warranty, after all, and is told that they cannot see her until Monday.

Well, I tell her to take it to our mechanic, Marks Motors in Owings Mills, and he puts it on a scanner, and the scan code reads, “loose gas cap,” which was probably created by a juxtaposition of an improperly installed gas cap, screwed up by yours truly, and the heat of the day.

So, this car, which has more electronics on it than all of NORAD did in 1967, has a sensor to detect a loose gas cap.

This is a good thing. A loose gas cap spews pollutants into the atmosphere.

But still I wonder whatever possessed the designers of the car to display this as engine fault, rather than flashing something saying “tighten your gas cap.”

Why send someone on a premature trip to the mechanic for a damn loose gas cap?

It’s a nice car, but this is a truly bone-headed human interface decision.

Barack Obama In Trying for Credibility in Defense, Destroys Our Military

Because Barack Obama and His Stupid Minions are terrified about being accused of being soft on defense,* that his future budgets will by expensive high tech weapons systems at the expense of operations, maintenance, and readiness:

U.S. spending on weapons through 2016 likely will grow faster than the overall defense budget, which will have annual increases of only about 1 percent above inflation, according to Pentagon Comptroller Robert Hale.

“Our goal would be to get forces and modernization to grow by 2 or 3 percent,” Hale said in an interview, while saying that “it’s not a given.”

So Obama intends to spend money on crap we don’t need, thereby diverting money from the crap we do need

Of course, the fact that we are already spending more money on defense than at any time since the end of the 2nd World War, and he’s still trying to increase the defense budget in real terms just buggers the mind.

Republicans support wasteful defense spending because:

  • It’s easy to demagogue.
  • They find defense contractors an easy touch for donations.
  • They want to ruin our finances so that we have to make cuts in social programs.

The Democrats support wasteful defense spending because:

  • They are afraid that Republicans will call them names.

Truth be told, I am not sure which one is more pathetic.

*It won’t work, the Republicans will run against you as soft on defense anyway. As the saying goes, “The coward dies a thousand deaths, the brave man only one.”

Quote of the Day

It is remarkable. I had expected that we economists would have to fight Democratic political advisors who would be pushing for policies that were bad in the long run but that gained votes in the short run. I had never expected to be fighting Democratic political advisors who are pushing policies that are:

  • bad in the long run.
  • bad in the short run.
  • lose votes too.

—-J. Bradford Delong, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the United States Department of the Treasury in the Clinton Administration

<Tinfoil Hat>I’m beginning to wonder if Obama isn’t some sort of Republican Manchurian Candidate</Tinfoil Hat>

I don’t really believe this, but his policy of cozying up to bankers, BP, and other corrupt centers of power in our society while cock punching the DFH’s* that are his base seems to be a pretty good job of sabotaging his party.

Better That They Piss on Each Other…

Because when the ratings agencies are pissing on each other, they are not pissing on the rest of us:

In a report that could equally have been written about its own prospects, S&P credit analyst Emile Courtney laid out a grim picture for rival ratings agency Moody’s saying it costs would likely rise, margins fall and litigation risks multiply.

Moody’s short-term debt has been placed by S&P on its CreditWatch list with a ‘negative watch’ outlook, meaning there is a more than 50pc chance its bonds could be downgraded.

Seriously, we need to obliterate fix the ratings agencies, sooner rather than later.

Angela Merkel is Lucky That

The bar for worst German leader ever is so high.

In the latest episode of this show, Ms. Merkel screwed the pooch on a political beauty pageant:

Chancellor Angela Merkel licked her wounds Thursday after rebels in her coalition turned a straightforward presidential election into a humiliating debacle that made her look weaker than ever.

In theory, Merkel’s coalition had more than enough votes in an assembly of lawmakers and public figures to secure comfortably on Wednesday an election of the conservative Christian Wulff to the largely ceremonial job of head of state.

She may have a future as a reverse barometer in her next job.

Congressional Dems Opt for No Guts And No Glory

Congressional Democrats have just caved to Republicans on a tax to make banks pay for their next bailout:

Democrats on Tuesday planned to strip out a controversial tax from their landmark financial reform bill in order to win the swing votes needed to pass it through Congress.

With crucial Republican moderates threatening to withdraw their support, Democrats were weighing alternative ways to fund the most sweeping rewrite of the Wall Street rulebook since the 1930s.

Though a supposedly final version of the bill had been hammered out last week, Democrats in charge of the process called a fresh negotiating session, which got under way shortly after 5 p.m. EDT Tuesday.

Democratic lawmakers and aides said they planned to remove a $17.9 billion tax on large financial institutions. Instead, they would cover most of the bill’s costs by shutting down a $700 billion bank-bailout program.

Except, of course, that the next time that a big bank needs a bailout, they would get one.

Why Dems aren’t using ‘Phants coziness with the banks as a club with which to hit them is beyond me, except, of course, for the fact that President Hopey-Changey wants to have something on his desk soon, even if it sucks wet farts from dead pigeons.

Once again, keep Obama away from toilet paper, because he will sign anything.

Torturing Duncan Black

Mr. Black, better known by his nom de blog Atrios, coined the term, “Friedman Unit ,” to describeThomas “The Mustache of Pablum” Friedman’s penchant for saying that the whichever war we are involved in will be won in the next 6 months.

A few months later Friedman would say that the next 6 months were “crucial.”

Rinse…lather…repeat…

Well, now Michael O’Hanlon is torturing the young lad:

At this moment, as we enter into perhaps the most crucial six months of the entire war, I hope and pray that President Obama will decide we cannot afford to be without the leadership of such an amazing American.

(emphasis mine)

Mr. Black wants someone to, “Make it stop.”

Your mouth to God’s ear, Mr. Black.

The People of America Have Learned What the People of Texas Already Knew

That representative Joe Barton (R-TX) is a complete moron.

You see, he publicly apologized to BP for what he called a, “$20 billion shakedown” by the Obama administration in getting the giant oil company to pay into an escrow fund. (He has since recanted)

To my mind, if the Dems don’t run with this like an overpaid wide receiver at the Superbowl, they are morons.
