Those Morons in Washington Are Doing It Again

I mean, of course, the Democrats, particularly the DSCC and DLCC.

There are two very good posts on open left (here and here) discussing the losses in the special elections in Virginia and Ohio yesterday.

The basic point is that the candidates, and the DCCC which backed them made no mention of the war.

These guys are still running away from ending the war. The Democrats took control of congress on this issue, despite these guys ducking covering on this issue in 2006, and they are doing it again.

It’s the war stupid, no matter how much these guys, largely ex-Clintonistas, want to make it the 1992 election.

No money to the DSCC or DCCC. When I give, it’s only to candidates who are clear and vocal about their opinion on the war. It does not have to be the centerpiece of their campaign, but it has to be out there and clearly visible.

‘Nuff said.

Same As It Ever Was

Paul Wolfowitz has been offered a position on the State Department’s International Security Advisory Board, where he will be offering advice on proliferation, and will have access to highly classified information.

This from a guy who lied us into war, and got fired from his last job because he was favoring his girl-friend.

Same as it ever was.
Same as it ever was.
Same as it ever was.
Same as it ever was.
Same as it ever was.

A Rundown on GOP Loyalty Oaths

Grand Old Party of Stalin, I guess.

  • The Virginia Republican party is requiring a signed oath that you will vote for the Republican presidential nominee.
  • The Kansas state Republican Party is forming a loyalty committee to punish officials who endorse or contribute to the wrong people.
  • On Vice President Cheney’s recent trip to New Mexico, residents were allowed in to hear his Albuquerque speech only if they signed a loyalty oath swearing they “endorse George W. Bush for reelection of the United States [sic].”
  • PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — “I want you to stand, raise your right hands,” and recite “the Bush Pledge,” said Florida state Sen. Ken Pruitt. The assembled mass of about 2,000 in this Treasure Coast town about an hour north of West Palm Beach dutifully rose, arms aloft, and repeated after Pruitt: “I care about freedom and liberty. I care about my family. I care about my country. Because I care, I promise to work hard to re-elect, re-elect George W. Bush as president of the United States.”

These folks have a problem deeper than bad policies.

Would Reverent Moon Please Buy the Washington Post Too???

It would improve the quality of the journalism there no end. We have a front page article saying that a bunch of nuts, who have been thoroughly debunked, are claiming that Barack Obama is a crypto-Muslim.

The more I read stories and opinions from the Post, the more that I am convinced that the entire Watergate affair was just stupid dumb luck.

Journamalist Perry Bacon Jr., today’s worst person in the world!

Barack Obama Is Pushing Yet Another Republican Meme, This One From the Wrongest of Right Wingers

He is referring to the claim that Jeff Gerth and Don Van Natta have made that both Clintons have a 20 year long plan for both of them to be president.

“I’m not in this race to fulfill some long-held plan or because it was owed to me,” Obama said the other day.

Asked if that were a reference to the Gerth allegation, an Obama spokesperson left virtually no doubt that it was, telling Newsday: “Barack Obama has not been mapping out his run for president from Washington for the last 20 years like some of his opponents.”

But the source that Gerth and Van Natta cited with supposed first-hand knowledge of this plan — historian Taylor Branch — has since vehemently denied that any such pact existed. “The story is preposterous,” Branch told The Washington Post, adding: “I never heard either Clinton talk about a ‘plan’ for them both to become president.”

I have no clue as to why this is going on, but it will destroy him in Iowa. While the most recent poll shows him in the lead there, his support is disproportionately young all around the country, and this has the potential to kill his campaign in Iowa. In addition to first timers to the caucuses being vulnerable to the tactics of the old party hacks (see Howard Dean’s problems in 2004), they also don’t show up to the caucuses reliably.

He is acting in a way calculated to make the Democratic stalwarts who know, and to a large degree run, the caucuses pissed off at him.

Mindlessly echoing Republican talking points is not being a uniter. It’s being a chump, and this time around even worse being a chump than being a DLC squish.

A chump can’t undo the dcamage the George W. Bush has done.

Clarence Thomas: Too Stupid to Cut His Own Meat

Dana Milbank had this gem in his account of a Federalist Society meeting:

But there were signs that Thomas is not a regular on the speaking circuit. “You know, it’s really hard to talk up here when this guy in front of me keeps moving,” Thomas announced early in his speech. He was referring to a television screen on the floor in front of him that was showing his own image — but because nobody but Thomas could see the TV, nobody knew what he was talking about.

“It’s me! I see myself moving around!” Thomas explained, then let out a resonant laugh: “Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!” He continued: “This guy keeps moving around in front of me. Jeez! At any rate, stop looking at this guy in front of me! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! You look at it and think, it’s too much of a good thing!”

A technician covered up the offending screen with a black cloth.

So Clarance Thomas, much like your average parrot, is capable of being fascinated and distracted by an image of himself.

What a maroon, to quote Bugs Bunny.

CNN Sucks Wet Farts From Dead Pigeons

Un-dirtyword-believeable. During the audience questions at the last debate, Maria Luisa, a UNLV student asked Hillary Clinton “whether she preferred “diamonds or pearls”. Now it turns out that CNN planted the question and forced her to ask it.

Wolf Blitzer, and the CNN corresponds, are a human stain.

I want Keith Olbermann to moderate a debate. Heck, I’d settle for Homer Simpson moderating the debate.

Of course my fantasy would be for Jon Stewart to moderate, but that is too much to ask.

House Dems Wimp Out, Delay Contempt Vote

Josh Bolten and Harriet Miers have refused a subpoena to testify before congress about the US Attorney scandal, and John Conyers has been asking for the House of Representatives to pass a contempt citation.

Well, it now appears, that they are again delaying the vote, this time to December:

Other top Democrats, including Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), have argued that the House should put off that fight while debates over Iraq funding and electronic eavesdropping dominate the floor. The contempt vote had been tentatively scheduled for Friday before Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) informed his colleagues that it was being delayed.

We really need some serious primary challenges for the wimp caucus, both Hoyer and Emanuel.

Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp Executives Directed Judith Regan To Lie in a Federal Investigation

I have this theory about the nature of things. Specifically, there is always a sort of a tipping pointy, and after that, nothing goes right.

I think that we may be seeing that the right wing has truly jumped the shark, who in this case is Judith Regan, who I have been told has very sharp teeth.

Ex-Publisher’s Suit Plays a Giuliani-Kerik Angle
By RUSS BUETTNER

Judith Regan, the former book publisher, says in a lawsuit filed yesterday protesting her dismissal by the News Corporation, the media conglomerate, that a senior executive there encouraged her to lie to federal investigators about her past affair with Bernard B. Kerik after he had been nominated to become homeland security secretary in late 2004.

The lawsuit asserts that the News Corporation executive wanted to protect the presidential aspirations of Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Kerik’s mentor, who had appointed him New York City police commissioner and had recommended him for the federal post.

Ms. Regan makes the charge at the start of a 70-page filing that seeks $100 million in damages for what she says was a campaign to smear and discredit her by her bosses at HarperCollins and its parent company, News Corporation, after her project to publish a book with O. J. Simpson was abandoned amid a storm of protest.

One of Ms. Regan’s lawyers, Brian C. Kerr of the firm of Dreier L.L.P., said she had evidence to support her claim that she had been advised to lie to federal investigators who were vetting Mr. Kerik and who might have sought to question her about their romantic involvement. But Mr. Kerr declined to discuss the nature of the evidence.

Word on Olbermann is that there are tapes…..With Republicans, there are always tapes.

New York Times Says Mukasey Must Dump Paulose

I’ve related some, and only some of the misdeeds of Rachael Paulose, a completely unqualified political hack appointed as US Attorney in Minnesota.

It appears that her litany of self-aggrandizement, racial epithets, mishandling of classified documents, and retaliation has come to the attention of the New York Times.

You can read the editorial, but basically, it can be reduced to three word advice to Attorney General Mukasey, “Ditch the Bitch”.

Every time that I think that Bush and His Evil Minions&trade Can’t Do Any Worse…..

They exceed the limits of my cynicism.

This time, it’s a Consumer Products Safety Commission that is refusing a larger budget and staff, and its head taking what are morally, if not necessarily legally, bribes from manufacturers and they are so disinterested in protecting the consumer, it’s as if they were dosing the kids with date rape drugs themselves.

They consistently exceed the limits of my cynicism.
