Despicable

Last night, I posted about what I though was a seriously cheeky and inventive way of tweaking the cops at Occupy Melbourne.

People wore tent costumes as a protest on the ban on tents.

What was the police response?

They stripped down a woman to her underwear in public, cutting her clothes off.

There are any number of people who give good justification to be called pigs.

You have, politicians (Newt, I mean you), sports figures (too many to name), reality TV stars (I try not to know their names), actors, musicians, the guy who cut me off in traffic today, overly aggressive telemarketers, etc.

This does not make all of these people pigs, it just makes the pigs who have those jobs pigs.

Well, these, “4 Melbourne City Council officers and 8 Victorian police officers,” are pigs.

I would not piss on them if they were on fire.

I hope Karma is real for these folks.

Sacrilege!

Seriously, some cultural icons should never be turned into advertisements.

I’m sure that Patrick McGoohan is turning over in his grave:

Yes, I know that this appears to be over 20 years old. The styling for the car is clearly 1980s, which implies that McGoohan approved, but I still do not approve.

Hopefully They’ll Get the Clue

H/t Buzzfeed for the pics

Look at his eyes. He is not a happy camper.

But I doubt it.

In any case, representatives of OWS have “Mic Checked”* Barack Obama:

President Obama was heckled on Tuesday during an appearance at a New Hampshire high school.

Obama had traveled north to the Granite State, which holds the nation’s first presidential primary, to discuss the economy and his proposal to extend a current payroll tax cut.

Just as the president started his speech, protesters, apparently from the Occupy Wall Street protest movement, used the “human mic” technique to amplify their voices. It was unclear what the protesters were saying, or what point they were attempting to make.

The president smiled through the disruption, saying: “No, it’s OK,” as other parts of the crowd sought to hush the protesters by chanting his name and old campaign slogan, “Yes We Can.”

In Chicago, another group mic checked Rahm Emmanuel too.

I don’t expect either of them to sympathize with OWS’ goals, ever.

They are both products of the wing of the Democratic party that is beholden to big money, and the FIRE (Finance, Insurance, Real Estate) sector’s money in particular, so to the degree that we see any movement towards accountability and meaningful regulations for the banksters, it will be because they are dragged kicking and screaming toward doing the right thing.

CoIntelPro for Banksters

Someone is sh%$ting bricks

I’m not sure if the Banksters have signed off on a disinformation, disruption, and infiltration program against Occupy Wall Street, but a a prominent Washington lobbying firm is trying to sell it to them:

A well-known Washington lobbying firm with links to the financial industry has proposed an $850,000 plan to take on Occupy Wall Street and politicians who might express sympathy for the protests, according to a memo obtained by the MSNBC program “Up w/ Chris Hayes.”

The proposal was written on the letterhead of the lobbying firm Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford and addressed to one of CLGC’s clients, the American Bankers Association.

CLGC’s memo proposes that the ABA pay CLGC $850,000 to conduct “opposition research” on Occupy Wall Street in order to construct “negative narratives” about the protests and allied politicians. The memo also asserts that Democratic victories in 2012 would be detrimental for Wall Street and targets specific races in which it says Wall Street would benefit by electing Republicans instead.

According to the memo, if Democrats embrace OWS, “This would mean more than just short-term political discomfort for Wall Street. … It has the potential to have very long-lasting political, policy and financial impacts on the companies in the center of the bullseye.”

The memo also suggests that Democratic victories in 2012 should not be the ABA’s biggest concern. “… (T)he bigger concern,” the memo says, “should be that Republicans will no longer defend Wall Street companies.”

It’s amusing, but it’s not time for a happy dance.

The thing to remember, and Chris Hayes is clear on this in the vid, is that this memo is just one pitch at creating a CoIntelPro type program, even if the American Bankers Association turned down this proposal.

There are dozens, if not hundreds of similar proposals in the works, and people who are trying to find someone obscenely rich mother f%$#er to bankroll them, so you have to figure that there are similar programs in process.

We are, after all, juxtaposing unconscionable levels of wealth with a sense of entitlement, and that’s a toxic brew.

This May be the Most Powerful OWS Video Yet

Following the blatant police brutality via pepper spray at University of California, Davis, the Chancellor Linda Katehi held a press conference, where hundreds (at least) of Occupy Davis protesters showed up outside, and demanded to be heard.

After cowering in the building for hours, she finally came out, and the protesters lined the path to her car with arms linked, and sat silently as she walked past as a mark of disdain:

This is a powerful video, and my guess is that Katehi discovered the limits of her deodorant on her little stroll.

I don’t think that she’s going to serve out the full term of her contract.

Desperately Seeking Anger Management Counseling

I give you deadbeat dad teabagger Congressman Joe Walsh:

I’ve seen politicians at confrontational meet and greets, and heard of one where the politician walked out (The well justified action of MD State Senator Bobby Zirkin when dealing with the [literally] insane CB screaming at him).

Sometimes a politician replies with mockery and scorn, see Barney Franks’ epic take-down of teabagger hecklers.

As you can see above, Joe “Not the Guitar God” Walsh is not even attempting an epic take-down, he’s just throwing an epic hissy fit.

I was half expecting him to throw a stroke.

No wonder his wife dumped his sorry ass.

It Couldn’t Happen to a Nicer Guy

What part of “unprovoked assault” don’t you get?

It turns out that Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna, who achieved his 15 minutes of fame because of his going postal on protestors with pepper spray, is now facing disciplinary charges:

A New York police commander who pepper-sprayed protesters during the opening days of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations last month faces an internal disciplinary charge that could cost him 10 vacation days, the police said Tuesday.

The commander, Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna, has been given a so-called command discipline, according to a law enforcement official. Officials said investigators found that the inspector ran afoul of Police Department rules for the use of the spray. The department’s patrol guide, its policy manual, says pepper spray should be used primarily to arrest a suspect who is resisting arrest, or for protection; it does allow for its use in “disorder control,” but only by officers with special training.

The Internal Affairs Bureau reviewed the episode and found that Inspector Bologna “used pepper spray outside departmental guidelines,” said Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s chief spokesman. He declined to elaborate.

The inspector can accept the charge and plead guilty, or he can opt for a departmental trial. Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly is the ultimate arbiter of punishment in such matters and has wide leeway in his decisions.

This is a nice start, but this was assault and battery under color of his badge.

DA Vance should be bringing this before a grand jury.

Occupy Wall Street Stays at Zuccotti Park

At least for now, but there were arrests, including, according to Olbermann, at least one arrest for being run over by a police vehicle. (Yep, you got that right)

He was arrested with enough force to require his hospitalization.

Here is the kicker:

The man on the ground has been identified as 32-year-old Ari Douglas, a legal observer at the Occupy Wall Street protests for the National Lawyer’s Guild. The video appears to show a police officer running over Mr. Douglas’ leg with a scooter.

First the viral video of the senior New York policeman (white shirt, lieutenant, at least) pepper spraying without provocation, and now we have this.

We also have two cases of what appears to be two unprovoked assaults on protesters, again by white shirt cops.

Seriously, these guys are going to make the Occupy Wall Street more popular than The Beatles:

God Bless The Onion

President’s Approval Rating Soars After Punching Wall Street Banker in Face

And in a related story:

The banker punch may have also been a boon for President Obama’s efforts to pass his American Jobs Act. When asked if he still opposed the bill this afternoon, a visibly nervous Republican house majority leader Eric Cantor said, “No no no. I’ll pass whatever the President wants. P-p-please don’t let him hurt me.”

Heh.
