No Anthropogenic Climate Change, My Ass!

Well, now I know why we had snow on Tuesday, the mid-Atlantic and Northeast US ended up an island of cool in an ocean of global warming:

NASA’s map of March temperatures around the globe is covered in orange and red, indicative of temperatures well above the norm and symptomatic of a planet running a fever for over 29 years. Yet various shades of blue light up eastern North America shivering under a cold regime which seized control in January.

 The wave after wave of bitter cold that has walloped the eastern half of the U.S. since the start of 2014 has truly been an anomaly set against the temperature pattern around the rest of the world. Incredibly, the eastern U.S. is the only region of the world that has been colder than normal each of the first three months this calendar year.

 ………

 So the tens of millions of winter weary residents of the eastern U.S. shouldn’t let the frigid weather in their backyard cloud their view of the relatively warm planet.

 While March produced areas of exceptional cold in the Great Lakes and Northeast – it was the third warmest March on record for the globe, 2 degrees (F) warmer than (the 1950-1981) average according to NASA.

Our climate is f%$#ed up and sh%$, and it is getting worse fast.

* ACCUMULATIONS…1 TO 3 INCHES. THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS WILL BE NORTH
AND WEST OF INTERSTATE 95 TOWARD THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS.
* TIMING…SNOW WILL BEGIN EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. THE HEAVIEST
SNOW IS EXPECTED TUESDAY MORNING BEFORE TAPERING OFF DURING THE

United’s Web Was Down, and I Was on Hold for 2 F%$#ing Hours, So ………

This Sh%$ is all F%$#ed Up!

So I drove to the airport to see what could be arranged at the ticket counter.

There are no seats avilable, so we will be playing the wait list tango at BWI starting very early in the morning.

Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Thank you Mr. Anthropogenic Climate Change.

With a bit of luck, we will make it by Friday some time.

I keep expecting Chevy Chase to appear, because it does seem like one of his Vacation movies.

My Thoughts on This Year’s Superbowl

Normally, I do not watch the Superbowl for the Football.

When my team, Washington is playing, I do not watch.

The least time I did was Super Bowl XXII.  I watched the first quarter, and Denver was leading 10-0, so when some friends came by suggesting dinner, I turned off the TV, and we left the hotel, (I was at a Boskone) and went put to eat.

I returned an the start of the third quarter, and the Redskins had scored 35 unanswered points.

I then realized that Washington had lost whenever I watched, and won when I hadn’t, so I do not watch them in that game.

You can call me superstitious, just don’t call me late for dinner.

So these days, I watch out for the ads, if I watch at all.  (I saw Apple’s 1984 ad when our originally aired.)

However, there are some exceptions to this.

If the Buffalo Bills play the Minnesota Vikings, I’ll watch.

Another exception is if the Superbowl is played outside in inclement winter weather, as the Football gods intended.

This year, the game will be played at the stadium formerly known as The Meadowlands, in North Jersey, so there is a distinct possibility of real Football played in real Football weather.

So if the mercury is below -10°C, our of there is some serious snow, I well be watching.

We’ve Got Weather

We are having a spot of weather in the Mid-Atlantic states.

The Baltimore County School District canceled school for tomorrow, which means that between the MLK holiday, and today’s teacher day for the end of the end of the semester, they will have a 2-day school week.

While I acknowledge that single digit temperatures, and 5+ inches of snow is legitimate winter weather.

Whatevs.

It’s Jobless Thursday!

Another disappointing week, last week was revised up, and initial claims this week were worse than forecast, 386K, down 2K from last week, only last week was revised up by 8K, with the 4-week moving average and continuing claim rising, though extended/emergency claims fell.

What I think we are seeing, and I think the fact that home sales fell in March reinforces this, is that the generally good economic news in the 1st quarter was (at least partially) an artifact of the unseasonably warm winter, which moved a lot of economic activity a few months earlier.

Basically, we saw time shifting, and thought that it was a recovery.

Well Our Power is Back On…

So after navigating innumerable road closings New Jersey, including parts of the Garden State Parkway, without benefit of a single sign showing where the f%$# we are supposed to go, we make it home, and our power is out.

While I could post with my laptop battery and cell phone, it’s after midnight, we’re exhausted, and there was no power, and BGE was saying that it would be turned back on on on Friday.

Well, electricity just came back on, and I’m exhausted, so I’m getting some damn sleep.

Light Posting for a While

Battening down the hatches, and we are actually at my Mother-In-Law’s, so we are both battening down her hatches for Hurricane Irene, and helping her pack, since she is moving from Monsey, NY to the Baltimore area.

Busy, busy, busy.

My prediction is that it will be a whole bunch of nothing, but I’m frequently wrong.
