It’s kind of neat, but still….too much free time.

Obama to Nation: “F$#@ this sh#@, I’m outta here”
September 19, 2008 at 12:21 am · Filed under political humor
In the wake of an epic financial meltdown that threatens to derail the U.S. economy for years, Barack Obama announced he was ending his run for President of the United States, declaring to a stunned nation, “Man, this is bullsh#@.”
In a boisterous and hastily-called press conference, Obama detailed his reasons for the decision. “I was prepared to fight global warming, reform the health care system, repair our crumbling roads, create a 21st century electric grid, find Bin Laden, end the war in Iraq, and bring peace to Israel and the Palestinians. But now you tell me I have to clean up the worst financial mess since the Great Depression too? One that’s going to plunge our economy into a recession for most of my administration while I take the blame? F$#@ that. That’s f$#@ing ridiculous. You guys clean up your own sh#@. I’m outta here.”

Went to a Career Fair down in Greenbelt today.
I really hate these things, but I went, handed out my resume, and got Schwag, free handouts, from potential employers, mostly pens, though a TLA (three letter acronym) government agency had a combined tape measure, level, and pen on a belt clip.
Things are fracked up busy.
Still, you learn something new every day. I’m about 8 bucks from my first Adsense check, and according to the Maryland DOL, I have to declare it when I file for unemployment.
I’ve got a lot of hatches to batten down, even as far inland as the Baltimore area.

It appears that the US U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service made a tiny error on the new Migratory Bird Conservation and Hunting Stamp (Duck Stamp), which is must be carried for all duck and waterfowl hunters. It costs $15.00, and proceeds go to acquiring and protecting wetlands for said waterfowl.
That would be fine, except for the fact that the most recent version of the self adhesive version of the stamp contains a serious misprint
The correct number, 1-800-STAMP24 (1-800-782-6724), is for people wishing to order additional duck stamps. Levin said two digits of the phone number are transposed on the card that holds the self-adhesive version of the stamp. That incorrect number, 1-800-872-6724, translates to 1-800-TRAMP24. Callers to ‘Intimate Connections’ [a phone sex service] are warned that they must be 18 years or older before proceeding.
This gives the phrase F@#$ a duck a whole new meaning.
Of course, next week we could find out that Palin’s a criminal or a bat-sh#t crazy religious fanatic — or both. In that case, she’d disappear or become a pundit.

It appears that the US is granting Citgo’s request for 250,000 BBL of crude from the US strategic petroleum reserve.
Citgo is the state owned oil company of Venezuela, and is thus controlled by Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

The McCain campaign keeps emphasizing that McCain was a prisoner in Vietnam, as proof of his qualification for the Presidency.
Well, so was Gary Glitter, and I’m not voting for him either
I don’t think that I will ever say anything so funny.

Interestingly, we are not talking about arms control treaties or UN resolutions here.
We are talking about violations of Russian licenses on their designs, which I find interesting because it dovetails into two of my geek areas of interest, defense procurement, and IP law.
It appears that licenses granted by the Soviets, and later the Russians on things like AK’s and RPG’s were for domestic production only, and did not include the right to sell internationally, so the US is breaking the law by selling the weapons to the security apparatus of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Somehow, I imaging that the US trade rep will not address this as strongly as they would bootleg albums from She Who Must Not Be Named being sold by Chinese street vendors.
But sometimes, someone there screws up, and reports the truth:
Obama veep announcement expected in coming days

His top contenders are said to include Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Less traditional choices mentioned include former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, an abortion-rights supporter, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democratic vice presidential prick in 2000 who now is an independent.
Too true.
It hasn’t been corrected yet, and I need a screen cleaner.

Well, it’s time for the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, 2008 Results.
I’m relieved that there people who write worse than I do, even though they are trying to write badly.
The winner, if you can call it that, was one Garrison Spik of Washington, D.C. :
Theirs was a New York love, a checkered taxi ride burning rubber, and like the city their passion was open 24/7, steam rising from their bodies like slick streets exhaling warm, moist, white breath through manhole covers stamped “Forged by DeLaney Bros., Piscataway, N.J.”
I’m impressed….Horrified, but impressed.
Normally, when some women wants to clone her pit bull, and pays something in excess of 50 grand to a Korean cloning lab to do so I kind of shrug my shoulders, and figure, “another idiot with more money than brains”.
This is further reinforced by the fact that the dog’s name is “Booger”.
However, the case of Bernann McKinney, the coverage of her dog cloning brought her, and her photograph to the attention of a number of people who say that she bears a disturbing similarity to one former Miss Wyoming, Joyce McKinney (see also here and here), who achieved some noteriety in the 1970s in the UK:
For those whose knowledge of news stretches back no further than the launch of Eudora, Joyce McKinney was the former Miss Wyoming who was accused in 1977 of stalking Kirk Anderson, young Mormon Missionary, all the way from Utah to Ewell in Surrey, before kidnapping him and spiriting him away to a cottage in Dorset. There, she allegedly chained him to a bed and forced herself upon him – three times – while wearing a see-through negligee. (Her, not him. He was apparently wearing a Mormon chastity garment, and presumably a pained expression.)
The object of Joyce McKinney’s affections eventually escaped her mink-lined handcuffs. She and an accomplice were charged with kidnapping, but she insisted it was consensual. Joyce escaped the UK using a false passport and disguised as a member of a mime troupe, but not before declaring in court that her love for the mink-restrained Mormon was such that: “I’d ski naked down Mount Everest with a carnation up my nose if he asked me.”
(emphasis mine)
BTW, she has now admitted that the is, in fact, that Joyce McKinney.
Seriously, if someone wrote this in a novel, the editor would send it back with a not saying that it was simply too weird to be believable.

CDO Market Is Dead, Not Just Pining for Fjords: Mark Gilbert
Commentary by Mark Gilbert (with apologies to Monty Python)
Aug. 7 (Bloomberg) — Hedge-Fund Guy enters an investment bank. “I wish to complain about this derivative security what I purchased not two years ago from this very boutique,” he says.
“Ah yes, the Collateralized-Debt Obligation,” says the Wall Street Banker. “What’s wrong with him?”
“I’ll tell you what’s wrong with him, my lad. He’s dead, that’s what’s wrong with him!”
Wall Street Banker: “No, no, he’s … restin’.” Hedge-Fund Guy: “Look, matey, I know a dead derivative when I see one, and I’m looking at one right now.”
“No, no, he’s not dead, he’s restin’! Remarkable investment, the CDO, isn’t it? Beautiful plumage!”
“The plumage don’t enter into it. He’s stone dead.”
…
Go read the rest, and don’t try to drink anything at the same time.
Talk about a long legal dispute!
The Association of the Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christ, which claims to be a descendant of the Knights Templar, are suing Pope Benedict over what they claim are about €100 billion in assets seized in 1307.
It appears that both Benedict and the Association of the Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christ are both moving toward the rehabilitation of the order, though I am not sure how the lawsuit would aid in this process.
The Association claims that, “Their motive is not to reclaim damages only to restore the ‘good name’ of the Knights Templar.”
Methinks that someone has watch the latest Indiana Jones movie too many times.
