On the Road Today

My chevrusa’s, (Torah study buddy for Charlie and I) daughter got married in Lakewood, NJ, and so it’s road trip crew.

This takes me out of my social comfort zone:  I’ve become comfortable with studying and praying with black hat orthodox, but the social interactions are far less copacetic.

So the wedding ceremony is fine, but I feel a bit like an alien at the reception.

To quote David Byrn, ” You may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?”

Wrap Party Tonight

Charlie and Sharon both acted in the Open Space Arts community theater’s 2012 Summer Playwright’s Festival, which had 5 (one was rained out) shows over the past two weeks.

Natalie also worked tech for the troupe, but was at a performing arts sleep-away camp,  Tizmoret Shoshana, for the performances.

Charlie had to take a role on 24 hours notice when another actor left the festival on short notice.

This afternoon was the last show, shop they had a wrap party, and since Sharon had a concert that she wanted to see,  Ayelet HaShachar, immediately after the play, I took Charlie to the party.

In any casee it’s been a fun, but hectic, Sunday.

I Hate My Son*

So, we were driving back from the bookstore, and I ended up mentioningMad Magazine, and he goes, “What’s that?”

So I feel like I’m older than Methuselah, because, after all, what twelve year old doesn’t know about Mad?

So  I explain what it is, and give him a primer on the magazine, and the history of EC Comics, and what it was all about.

As we are parking, he reveals that he is fully cognizant of Mad, and that he’s been pulling my chain.

Sharper than a serpent’s tooth.

I am currently developing an appropriate plan for revenge.

*Not really, but I have to get him back for this.

I Fear That My Son Might Be Ineluctably Evil

I was getting my son to bed, and in a fit of bad parenting, I told him to, “Put his head on the f%$#ing pillow.”

He asked me if his pillow actually did this, and I told him that Rule 34 said yes.

He asked what Rule 34 was, and I said that it was, “If it exists, there’s pr0n for it.”

His response, “So there’s Rubik’s Cube Pr0n?”

I’m afraid to Google it.

The Drug War Sucks

We’ve kind of been rolling the trifecta with colds.

Sharon* has been on antibiotics for a cough and sinus for a few days, and after being blown off by our kid’s pediatrician’s replacement doc, so we went to an urgi-care clinic, and we got diagnoses for them, and me as well, since I had a nagging cough, and it had gotten bad enough that I wasn’t waiting until I saw my doctor at my regularly scheduled appointment with my doctor.

Charlie has a sinus infection, Natalie’s sinus infection migrated down to pharyngitis, and mine had migrated down to a full blown bronchitis.

In addition, Marilyn, my mother-in-law is at Sinai Hospital for what appears to be pneumonia.

So, what does this have to do with the drug war?

Well, in addition to antibiotics, both Charlie and I were prescribed decongestants, and both of these medications contained Pseudoephedrine, and so I could not buy both, because federal regulations say that it’s too much, and we might ………… cook meth.

The war on drugs is, to misappropriate the words of Nietzsche, like the bite of a dog into a stone, it is a stupidity.

*Love of my life, light of the cosmos, she who must be obeyed, my wife.

Ghod What a Geekfest!

From Halloween 2010

Charlie, my son, is going to his first cubing competition, the River Hill Winter 2012, and I am his escort / videographer. (I won’t be posting the videos, Charlie will, on his Youtube channel, PostalCode74.)

He’s in hog heaven, and I’m using the local WiFi to go online. We brought my laptop so that we could unload the camera’s memory card if needed.

The venue had to move at the last minute, the high school they were using got closed due to snow and freezing rain, but thankfully, there are plenty of little community centers in the Columbia area.

He showed up in his Rubik’s Cube Halloween costume, which was well received, but he is taking it off to compete.

A couple of his fellow partners in crime offered to solve him.

Well, I Promised Pictures

Brains, Brains…

Brains, Brains

Or tuna. Tuna would be nice

Well, I did promise pictures of the new cats, so here are Mousetrap and Hummus (middle pic).

They seem to be settling in fairly well, though there does appear to be a bit of tense between the two of them.

Right now, there Mousetrap seems to be in the pole position for alpha cat, but we’ll see how it sorts out.

If it’s physical strength, it’s definitely Mousetrap, who is built like a tank, though I think that Hummus might be a bit quicker on her feet.
