Worst President Ever

GW Bush’s popularity is now has a 28% approve and 69% disapprove ratings, the worst ever.

The previous low was held by Harry Truman in Jan 1952 of 67% disapproval, and no doubt the 28% dead-enders will make comparisons, but the Avignon president is no Harry Truman.

66% of Republicans still approve of his job, once again showing C=MI*, though if they are true to form, they will all pretend to have hated him for most of his term within 18 months of his leaving office.

The pathological need to support the person in charge is a disturbing part of the human makeup.

Senate Polls

First, we have Alaska, where Ted Stevens(R) gets 46%, and Mark Begich(D)gets 45%. It’s still early but this is not good news for Stevens, as undecideds typically break 2:1 for the challenger, giving Begich a very good chance of being the first Democratic Senator from Alaska since Mike Gravel.

In New Mexico, we have Tom Udall in a comfortable lead over his potential opponents, 54% to 40% over Steve Pearce and 56% to 36% over Heather Wilson, who has been seriously hurt by her involvement in the US Attorney firings scandal.

Bush Less Popular than Cancer

American Research Group‘s latest poll has only 19% of respondents approving of his job performance.

That’s worse than cancer. Hell, that’s worse than Dick Cheney.

Impeach him now, it’s a political plus.

How I’ll Be Tracking the Polls

As opposed to posting update posts, I’ve put a Google Spreadsheet on the top of my page.

To prevent useless scrollage, I’m going to not show the older results, but you can see the whole spreadsheet here, ready for things like export to excel or other analysis packages.

Anyone who uses these regularly, I have a couple of questions:

  • Is there a way to vary the weight of the borders?
  • Is there a way to automatically bold the leader in a poll (I’ve played around with Google’s conditional formatting, and ti does not yet quite make it there).

Otherwise, consider this an open thread.
