And While We Are Talking About People Upset with Obama

At Crooks and Liar, they have thrown in the towel:

That does it. Obama needs to face a strong primary challenger. And no, I don’t care if it costs the Democrats the White House in 2012. Obama had a golden opportunity to have an actual victory — the first he’s had since he killed that fly back in 2009 — and he’s flushing it down the crapper. We cannot have this guy representing us anymore. He is too weak to lead.

While Michael Lerner, editor of Tikkun magazine and the chair of the interfaith Network of Spiritual Progressives, is saying that we need a strong primary challenge from the left to save Obama from himself:

But there is a real way to save the Obama presidency: by challenging him in the 2012 presidential primaries with a candidate who would unequivocally commit to a well-defined progressive agenda and contrast it with the Obama administration’s policies. Such a candidacy would be pooh-poohed by the media, but if it gathered enough popular support – as is likely given the level of alienation among many who were the backbone of Obama’s 2008 success – this campaign would pressure Obama toward much more progressive positions and make him a more viable 2012 candidate. Far from weakening his chances for reelection, this kind of progressive primary challenge could save Obama if he moves in the desired direction. And if he holds firm to his current track, he’s a goner anyway.

Note that both of these comments were before Obama’s sellout this evening.

I Now Know How The Daily Show Writers Feel…

The Mustache of Insanity

Because former recess appointee UN ambassador John Bolton is saying that he might run for President:

During recent appearances on Fox News, Bolton has been asked whether he would run for president. “Well, you know it’s a great honor when people ask me that question, and I have been asked that question,” Bolton said on Wednesday. “I don’t think anybody involved with politics should worry about that until after the elections this fall.”

He also said: “I’m not saying no. That’s right.”

This promises to be easier to ridicule, and even more funny, than the Freddie Thompson Clown Show presidential campaign of 2008.

I so want him to run.

Do you know that it’s been over 100 years since we elected a president with facial hair (Taft, 1908).

The Frothy Mix of Lube and Fecal Matter That Is Sometimes the Byproduct Of Anal Sex ……… *

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is looking at running for President in 2012.

Part of me is horrified at the prospect of his insanity and demagoguery polluting the Republican Presidential primary campaign, but another part does not believe that it’s possible for the cesspool known as the Republican Party can get any more polluted, and a third part of me is eager to comment on what is surely to be a first class clown show.
Snark Missile
Time to start stockpiling snark.

*If you don’t understand, you have been living under a rock, but the answer is only a Google away.
While he lived in Virginia, and had no home in Pennsylvania, which is a neat trick.

The Taiwanese Assesment of Sarah Palin

I’m not sure if it’s the same folks as “Apple Daily,” who did those animations of a prominent golfer who is on my list of They Who Must Not Be Named which Olberman featured prominently, but the style, as well as the cultural sensibilities, seem to be very similar.

I’m not sure if this means that they Don’t understand the United States, or if it means that they Do understand the United States.

If the producers of this video do actually understand us, we are in for a world of hurt as a nation.

Signs of the Apocalypse

The National Enquirer has had its coverage of of the John Edwards sex scandal accepted by the Pulitzer committee:

The Pulitzer Prize Board has officially accepted The National Enquirer’s submissions for breaking the John Edwards scandal, according to sources close to the Board. In a historic move, the Pulitzer Board conceded that the self-proclaimed tabloid is qualified to compete with mainstream news outlets for journalism’s most prestigious prize. The Enquirer is in the running for the Pulitzer in two categories: “Investigative Reporting” and “National News Reporting” for The National Enquirer staff.

I agree that they should be considered for the prize, but it’s still weird.

I wouldn’t bet on them winning though.

I’m Shocked, Shocked To Find That Gambling Is Going On In Here!

(Cue Captain Renault)

So, Tom Ridge tells us now that Bush and His Evil Minions manipulated terror alerts for political gain.

But he vehemently denied any such effort while he was in office, and delayed his resignation as head of DHS until after the election.

He knew that it was wrong, but he kept his mouth shut, and now he writes a book, and it’s supposed to make everything hunky dory….It does not.

Mr. Ridge, as I stated only yesterday, I do not take the term “treason” lightly, but it appears to me that your complicity in this affair, when you knew that it was happening, and you know that it was wrong, and you knew that it was damaging to the country, comes awfully close to that term.

Run, Little Ricky, Run!!!!

It appears that Rick Santorum* is making the pilgrimage to Iowa, indicating that he is looking to run for President in 2012:

Add former Sen. Rick Santorum to the list of potential 2012 Republican presidential candidates.

POLITICO has learned Santorum will visit first-in-the-nation Iowa this fall for a series of appearances before the sort of conservative activists who dominate the state GOP’s key presidential caucuses.

While this might not be good for the nation, or for the caucus goers of Iowa, or any attempt to have sanity return to the Republican party in 2012, it is good for late night talk show hosts, columnist Dan Savage, and anyone interested interested in heaping scorn on nonsensical quotes from Republicans, like yours truly.

This promises to be as entertaining as the Fred Thompson Clown show of 2008.

Of course, it could go horribly awry, as my father illustrated in 1968, when he noted, “Those stupid bastards nominated Richard Nixon! There is no way that we can lose now.”

*The definition of Santorum is, “That frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex”.
Who coined said definition of “Santorum.”
Piss poor political forecasts run in my family, so do not take my predictions as gospel.

Another Thought on Sarah Palin

My thoughts on Sarah Palin surprise resignation remains that she quit to run for President.

Simply put, I have been receiving reports of her hubris and self-important behavior from my dad since before the election, and I think that she really believes that God wants her to be President, and with what shee sees as the increasingly vitriolic campaign of the Republican establishment against her, she feels the need to “talk directly to the people,” specifically the people of Iowa and New Hampshire.

I think that she honestly believes that if she can meet enough voters 1 on 1, then she can win the caucus and primary.

I should note that my position is not the consensus in the blogosphere, which is that there is either a major scandal or health issue about to rear its head.

Palin’s bizarre performance at her announcement would indicate something sudden, but both the recent very public push-back from the DC ‘Phants and a potential scandal falls in that category.

In either case, I long for the day when she goes on my They Who Must Not Be Named list.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!?!?

Palin is resigning as governor of Alaska to focus on running for President effective July 25. (see also here)

It appears that she thinks that she needs more than 2 years to run for President, her term expires in 2010.

3½ more years of Palin….Great googly moogly!

I cannot imagine that anyone out there with a smidgen of sanity views this with anything but dread, except, perhaps, Jon Stewart, Dave Letterman, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, etc. and their staffs, who find writing satirical monologues that much easier.

Palin In-Law Drug Bust Delayed for Election

Well, this story is interesting.

It appears that the dope-dealing case of Sherry L. Johnston, whose son, Levi is due to marry Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter, has taken a few twists:

  • Ms. Johnston Believed that she was already under surveillance, being caught on wiretap texting to a customer, “”Hey, my phones are tapped and reporters and god knows who else is always following me and the family so no privacy. I will let u no when I can go for cof. [Oxycontin]”
  • That the search warrant was purposely delayed until after the election so that Johnston was, “no longer under the protection or surveillance of the Secret Service.”
    • This last bit is particularly interesting, as the only time that she should be under surveillance or protection of the Secret Service would be when she was with Sarah Palin.

This raises the question as to whether Palin was using her position to delay the execution of a search warrant.

OK, This is a Story of a Celebrity Connected Drug Bush

Which generally means that I don’t write about it.

As I have said about She Who Must Not Be Named, and They Who Must Not Be Named:

Absent some sort of political activity, such as endorsements, running for office (PLEASE GOD NO!!), or their attempting to assassinate someone, she will not be mentioned here.

So why am I writing about the arrest of Sherry L. Johnston on drug charges that appear to be associated with possession or distribution of Oxycontin.

Why am I writing about a small time drug bust in the small town of Wasilla, Alaska….Hold it….Wasilla, where Sarah Palin comes from, and Johnston, like the guy, Levi, who knocked up her teenage daughter?

Yes, Sherry L. Johnston is Levi’s mom….And Levi Johnston and and Bristol Palin are still engaged to be married, and her baby is due today, though a quick scan of the ADN web site shows that the birth has not yet been anounced.

So, why am I mentioning it?

Let’s see:

  • Palin thought that it was significant that Obama worked on a community board with William Ayers, and now her future in-law is charged with being a drug dealer.
    • So by Sarah Palin’s own standards, she’s involved.
  • Palin was just the vice-presidential nominee, and shows every indication of wanting to run for president in 2012.
  • Wasilla was a sleepy town in the middle of nowhere when Palin became mayor, and by the time she left, it was known as the “Meth Capital of Alaska,” probably because she fired the competent police chief and replaced him with her own goon.

So, yes, this is noteworthy, particularly if your name is Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, David Letterman, or Jon Stewart.
