OK, Maybe I’ll Console My Self With the Rudolph Clown Show

The Siena New York Poll has him behind John McCain by 12 points in New York State.

The Freddie Thompson Clown Show may be on its way out, but Rudy is doing a good job to pick up the pathetic humor in the presidential campaign.

After all, Rudy showed up to a NASCAR race, and begged to be allowed to drive the pace car, after making a circuit in his bus, but wasn’t allowed.

He’s a good substitute source of my minimum RDA of Schadenfreude.

Dewey Defeats Truman

Let me just offer Ramesh Ponnuru, and the rest of my “friends” at the National Review a hearty:

Ha Ha!!!

BTW, with the exception of Jonah Goldberg, you folks was robbed. Bill Kriston can’t write, can’t think, and can’t get the facts straight. If the NY Times wanted a another reactionary in its OP/ED page, they could have selected someone better, though I find his first column so laughable, it amused me.

Like I’ve said before, I’m not classy. I’ve nearly broken 40 posts using the “schadenfreude” tag.

Schadenfreude: Scaife Edition

I posted about this in October when the WaPo covered this, and now Vanity Fair has a much more extensive writeup of the Scaife divorce.

So, the man who did his best to get a president impeached for sleeping around is himself a philanderer. He is a hypocrite who deserves any pain he gets.

FWIW, he should let his wife have that damn dog. In a divorce, you try to get out with your balls intact, the dog is a distraction.

I Love it When Conservatives Go Hammer and Tongs After Each Other

In the left corner, wearing the bible print trunks, Michael Dale “The Gastric Bypass” Huckabee, and in the left corner, wearing currency print trunks with the corporate sponsorship, the Club for Growth.

It appears that the CfG is taking out bunch of nasty ads against Huckabee.

Four years ago, they called me a, “tax-hiking, government-expanding, latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Times-reading body-piercing, Hollywood-loving, left-wing freak show”, so I’m experiencing no small amount of schadenfruede.

Kerik, the Gift That Keeps on Giving

Well, it appears that there are still more depths to plumb in l’affaire Kerik.

Laurence Ray, one of Kerik’s closest associates, he was best man at Kerik’s 1998 wedding and he was convicted of mob-related securities fraud, appears to be singing like a bird:

This spring, Ray’s friend Sidney Baumgarten, a New York lawyer, told former deputy mayor and longtime Giuliani ally Ninfa Segarra that Ray was embroiled in a bitter divorce and an even worse custody dispute over his two daughters. Baumgarten said he told Segarra that Ray possessed “damaging” information about Giuliani but that he would not go public with his allegations if he could receive help with the mounting legal troubles.

“That was the implied quid pro quo,” Baumgarten recalled in an interview with The Post, saying the conversation stemmed solely from his desire to help Ray’s children in the custody case.

The following day, Baumgarten received an e-mail from Segarra advising Ray to call an acquaintance of hers, a “political heavyweight” lawyer who could assist Ray in the custody dispute in New Jersey. “For now I would ask not to identify me as the referral,” Segarra wrote in the March 5 e-mail obtained by The Post.

I am so hoping that the Republicans nominate Giuliani.

Oral Roberts’ Son Resigns as President of Oral Roberts University

Shades of Elmer Gantry. They go into the more prosaic stuff, like a nearly $40 thousand shopping spree, and a nearly $30 thousand senior trip for his kids, repeatedly remodeling their home, and requiring students to work on a political campaign for a specific candidate.

There are also allegations that his wife had an inappropriate relationship with an underage student, or students, at the university.

There is a lot to be found, now that the rock has been turned over. I could see a reprise of the Jim and Tammy Fae Bakker PTL ministries.

Driving While Lap Dancing

Well, it looks like everyone’s favorite drunken wife beating former congressman John Sweeney is at it again. After being defeated by Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand, in large part due to allegations of drunkenness and spousal abuse, is at it again.

Well, after weaving, he was pulled over by the cops, and the “one-time STOP-DWI coordinator for Rensselaer County” blew a 0.18 percent, more than twice the limit.

The kicker, he had a 23 year old woman on his lap when he was pulled over.

Gotta love them Republithug values.

Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp Executives Directed Judith Regan To Lie in a Federal Investigation

I have this theory about the nature of things. Specifically, there is always a sort of a tipping pointy, and after that, nothing goes right.

I think that we may be seeing that the right wing has truly jumped the shark, who in this case is Judith Regan, who I have been told has very sharp teeth.

Ex-Publisher’s Suit Plays a Giuliani-Kerik Angle
By RUSS BUETTNER

Judith Regan, the former book publisher, says in a lawsuit filed yesterday protesting her dismissal by the News Corporation, the media conglomerate, that a senior executive there encouraged her to lie to federal investigators about her past affair with Bernard B. Kerik after he had been nominated to become homeland security secretary in late 2004.

The lawsuit asserts that the News Corporation executive wanted to protect the presidential aspirations of Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Kerik’s mentor, who had appointed him New York City police commissioner and had recommended him for the federal post.

Ms. Regan makes the charge at the start of a 70-page filing that seeks $100 million in damages for what she says was a campaign to smear and discredit her by her bosses at HarperCollins and its parent company, News Corporation, after her project to publish a book with O. J. Simpson was abandoned amid a storm of protest.

One of Ms. Regan’s lawyers, Brian C. Kerr of the firm of Dreier L.L.P., said she had evidence to support her claim that she had been advised to lie to federal investigators who were vetting Mr. Kerik and who might have sought to question her about their romantic involvement. But Mr. Kerr declined to discuss the nature of the evidence.

Word on Olbermann is that there are tapes…..With Republicans, there are always tapes.

Right Wing Regenry Press Cheats Authors Out of Royalties

It appears that Regenry Press, incubator of right wing nutjobs who can’t write*, is getting sued for cheating authors out of royalties. The claim is that Regenry, “orchestrates and participates in a fraudulent, deceptively concealed and self-dealing scheme to divert book sales away from retail outlets and to wholly owned subsidiary organizations within the Eagle conglomerate.”

In Regnery’s case, according to the lawsuit, the publisher sells books to sister companies, including the Conservative Book Club, which then sells the books to members at discounted prices, “at, below or only marginally above its own cost of publication.” In the lawsuit the authors say they receive “little or no royalty” on these sales because their contracts specify that the publisher pays only 10 percent of the amount received by the publisher, minus costs — as opposed to 15 percent of the cover price — for the book.

Mr. Miniter said that meant that although he received about $4.25 a copy when his books sold in a bookstore or through an online retailer, he only earned about 10 cents a copy when his books sold through the Conservative Book Club or other Eagle-owned channels. “The difference between 10 cents and $4.25 is pretty large when you multiply it by 20,000 to 30,000 books,” Mr. Miniter said. “It suddenly occurred to us that Regnery is making collectively jillions of dollars off of us and paying us a pittance.” He added: “Why is Regnery acting like a Marxist cartoon of a capitalist company?”

I love that last quote. FWIW, they are not acting like a “Marxist cartoon of a capitalist company“, they are acting like a Harvard Business School professor.

As a matter of law, I am not a lawyer. As a matter of the facts, this is rather complicated. Regenery has a long history of basically giving its books away to boost numbers, you see it all the time at places like Newsmax, where if you subscribe, they’ll throw in a bloody library of conservative hardcover tripe. This way, someone who writes a book that might sell 3,000 copies gets to do the pundit circuit as a someone who has sold 100,000 copies,

I’d love to be a part of the legal discovery process, but right now I’m basking in the Schadenfreude.

*Yeah, like I’m one to talk, but at least I don’t think that I’m the next Hemingway.

Doughy Pantload 0|/n493 (Ownage)

The Amazon entry for Jonah Goldberg’s book, Liberal Fascism, got hacked:
You can click for the full sized image (not taken by me), but the text reads “Liberal Fascism: The Totalitarian Temptation from When I Got My Advance Until I Finally Hand in the Manuscript in 2011.”

This is particularly amusing because even among the nepotism blessed children of the original Neocons, Goldberg is an embarrassment.

Scaife Divorce Schadenfreude

I really can’t do justice to the reporting of the Washington Post with regard to the Scaife divorce, but it could not happen to a nicer guy than the man who ran the Arkansas project against Bill Clinton, drove Vince Foster into suicide, and very likely contributed to the death of Steve Kangas.

Here’s a quick sample, then go and read, and enjouy:

The culture of his own marriage is apparently past restoring. With the legal fight still in the weigh-in phase, the story of Scaife v. Scaife already includes a dog-snatching, an assault, a night in jail and that divorce court perennial, allegations of adultery.

Oh, and there’s the money. Three words, people.

No. Pre. Nup.

Dickie, as he’s known to his handful of friends, acquired a mean streak at an early age, according to his now-deceased sister, Cordelia Scaife. (She once told The Washington Post that she and her brother hadn’t spoken for 25 years.) His trouble with alcohol started when he was at prep school, and he later was tossed out of Yale when he rolled a keg of beer down a flight of stairs and broke the legs of a fellow student. His father, a below-average businessman, died a year after Richard graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. His mother was “just a gutter drunk,” as Cordelia put it.

Scaife owns a handful of newspapers and newsweeklies, including the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, a conservative answer to the Post-Gazette. When he isn’t tending to this modest publishing empire, he’s underwriting what Hillary Clinton once called “a vast right-wing conspiracy.” His highest-profile expenditure is the $2.3 million he gave the American Spectator magazine in the mid-’90s, to try to unearth prurient and embarrassing details about Bill Clinton’s years as governor of Arkansas. (The magazine came up virtually empty-handed.)

I wish his soon to be ex-wife all the best. Him, I am not so magnanimous in his wishes.
