Washington Post Reporters Don’t Actually Read the Washington Post

Paul Kane, writing for the Washington Post, notes that Democratic political committees are seeing a major drop in fund raising, but he assigns blame to, “Complacency among their rank-and-file donors and a de facto boycott by many of their wealthiest givers, who have been put off by the party’s harsh rhetoric about big business.”

It ain’t complacency, it’s anger and demoralization, because the Democrats in general and Barack Obama in particular, have folded any time the small by historical standards Republican minority has gotten their nose out of joint.

I saw that in the paper today on the front page, and by paper, I mean paper, I have the ink and newsprint sitting by my keyboard.

You know what else I saw in the paper, just today?

Let me make this clear, this is just what is in today’s Washington Post.

When you add in:

  • Obama’s support of the status quo on gays in the military, the Defense of Marriage Act.
  • Support of Timothy Geithner and Larry Summers and His Evil Minions™ on the idea that there should be no meaningful accountability for banks or their executives.
  • His phony reforms on the state secrets privilege.

Is it any wonder that people are disinclined to donate money to a Democratic Party fund raising apparatus that he is firmly in control of?

You know, if Barack Obama showed a little bit of guts, members of the Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party might be inclined to have his back.

But when you are in Baucus and Conrad’s corner, you ain’t in ours.

Well, it looks like Republican Jihad against Acorn may have uninended consequences.

You see, in order to avoid an unconstitutional bill of attainder in their quest to punish Acorn for registering black people to vote being taken in by a right Gonzo videographer, the bill was drafted broadly.

“How broadly,” you ask?

The congressional legislation intended to defund ACORN, passed with broad bipartisan support, is written so broadly that it applies to “any organization” that has been charged with breaking federal or state election laws, lobbying disclosure laws, campaign finance laws or filing fraudulent paperwork with any federal or state agency. It also applies to any of the employees, contractors or other folks affiliated with a group charged with any of those things.

In other words, the bill could plausibly defund the entire military-industrial complex. Whoops.

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) picked up on the legislative overreach and asked the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) to sift through its database to find which contractors might be caught in the ACORN net.

Lockheed Martin and Northrop Gumman both popped up quickly, with 20 fraud cases between them, and the longer list is a Who’s Who of weapons manufacturers and defense contractors.

Needless to say, I don’t expect anyone to enforce it against anyone but Acorn, but this does sound a bit unfortunate.

You know, you would figure that maybe the site’s design would be a little more tech savvy for a former head of HP, but then you realize that it’s….well….Carly.

If there is a better example of a destructive and dishonest empty suit out there, I’d be hard pressed to find it.

I May Not Be Fasting on Yom Kippur

Because that pig felching junkie and drunk Glenn Beck has decided to announce that he wants to use September 28th this is a day of fasting and prayers for conservatives, and that is also the daytime portion of Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement.

My guess is that this a cunning plan for him to claim that “millions were fasting,” because we do that every year.

I have no health issues that would prevent me from fasting.

In fact, giving my gut a 25 hour rest is actually pretty good for me, settles everything down, but I think that there must be something in Halacha* that prohibits even the appearance of listening to that bigoted repugnant moran.

The latest spin on the attendance at the “912” demonstration from the wingnuts, which implies that they thought that the attendance was anemic, was that the Washington DC Metro was simply unprepared for accommodating “massive” influx of passengers.

You know, less than 80,000 riders on a system that accommodates over 900,000 riders a day is not a big surge.

More telling, however, is that one of the loudest voices complaining about the quality of service is Representative Kevin Brady (R-TX-8), who voted against additional funding to the DC Metro earlier this year.

Votes against funding the Metro, then complains that it lacks adequate resources.

Well, This Explains the Stock Market Bump

I believe that I’ve mentioned this before, but what is going on here is that the Federal Reserve is printing money and giving it to bankers with instructions to buy stocks, in order to pump up the market.

There is a lot that is wrong with this, it’s the biggest pump and dump scheme in the history of ……Well……History is the immediate flaw that comes to mind, but this ignores the truly troubling aspect of these actions.

The scary part is that this is based in the heartfelt belief that the stock market really is the economy, and so by creating an artificial bump in stock prices, that you are creating a real bump in the real economy.

At it’s core, this is what is wrong here: The inability to see Wall Street and Main Street as separate items, and to recognize that Main Street is far more important.

When this peters out, and it will, we will be in a deeper hole than when we started.

Affirmative Action for White Folks

Of course, for white people, you don’t call it affirmative action, you call it nepotism, and the poster child for nepotism, at least this week is Luke Russert, who upon having the opportunity to question Congressional heckler Joe Wilson in his first press statements following his heckling Barack Obama’s speech, chose to asks him about the Clemson/Georgia Tech game.

You know, it’s genetics. Tim Russert did this kind of sh&% all the time…If you were a republican on his show.

On Obama’s School Speech

I really don’t give a damn what crazy people say, which is what the controversy is all about, though when Newt Gingrich said that, “It’s a good speech,” and that, “I recommend it to everybody if you have any doubts. I would love to have every child in America read it, think about it, and learn that they should stay in school and they should study,” I did look out my window for pigs flying or a rain of frogs.

The contraversy is like dealing with s 3 year old in full tantrum. Put him in a place with no sharp edges, and do something else.

Anything else just encourages more tantrums.

Well, it gets better, because the person that he has charged with running this august institution is one James K. Glassman, a fact that I did not pay much attention to when I made the initial snark.

Clayton Littlejohn, Wonkette, and Matthew Yglesias caught the obvious irony: Mr. Glassman is the author of Dow 36,000, in which he and Kevin A. Hassett wrote in 1999, which predicted that the index would top thirty-six thousand in the next few years.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed today, about a decade later, at 9,441.27.

Mr. Glassman appears uniquely qualified to represent the ideas of George W. Bush.
